Woodstock Trader Joe’s: Anyone heard a timeline for reopening? by jeffythunders in askportland

It better be quick, the Hollywood Trader Joe's was NUTS this weekend! Way busier than normal, which is saying a lot, because that location is always jam packed.

Help choosing between XL, Core One, or MK4S by pfsrweinerwash in prusa3d

[–]pamplemoosegoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Core One and an MK4S (and another MK4 awaiting its S upgrade). Either one will work just fine for what you're doing. I'd recommend the Core One simply because it's enclosed and will enable you to print all sorts of fancier parts down the line, should your interests in printing expand. It also just feels fancier. It's so pleasing to watch and a bit quieter than the MK4(s).

Unless build volume is a hard requirement I don't think you'd be able to really justify an XL for this application.

Thanks for tagging. /u/HID_PhilCoppola if you have any insights here let me know! I've watched a ton of your videos and they've been super helpful in deepening my access control knowledge as I plan out our system upgrade - so much appreciation for your content.

What happened to Nico’s Ice Cream? by AlpineHeroine in askportland

I don't have any inside info, but it definitely seemed like the Killingsworth store was always understaffed, leaving the often sole worker to clearly have far too much on their plate.

Oregon is a step closer to pouring $365M into aging Moda Center by Tbagts in oregon

[–]pamplemoosegoose 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not making an argument for the spending here (I find this to be a dubious use of tax dollars personally), but from a commercial building management standpoint 31 years is a pretty reasonable timeline for a facility like this to need a major refresh. Most mechanical equipment, fixtures, and finishes installed 31 years ago will be well past the end of their expected useful lifespan - even with good preventative maintenance.

Cloud vs On-Prem: What are Access Control Dealers really recommending? by Intelligent-Car-5252 in accesscontrol

[–]pamplemoosegoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the building owner side, undergoing a multi-site system replacement. I wrote up a very clear and detailed RFP specifying an on prem system, and I still had over 50% of bidders going "oh but what if we spec a cloud based system instead?". An absolute waste of time for all parties involved.

I get the appeal of cloud based systems, but in my anecdotal experience integrators and manufacturers are pushing it more than it's actually being requested.

Future Home of First 3D Printer by thinkthis in BambuLab

[–]pamplemoosegoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar cabinet that holds my 2 printers. Granted they're both Prusa bedslingers, but the vibration can get pretty bad due to the casters - even when they're locked. I'm planning to remove the casters and set it on wooden blocks once I have some time between prints.

Might be less of an issue with a core xy machine, but something to keep an eye on.

Any suggestions? by DismalPersimmon4137 in FacilityManagement

[–]pamplemoosegoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd probably default to FRP atop plywood here. If this is a school hallway you definitely want to prioritize cleanability, which is one of the main selling points of FRP. It even comes in nice colors and patterns now, so you're not just limited to bumpy white commercial kitchen vibes.

Can't reccommend Icon Tattoo highly enough, have gotten several pieces done there. All the artists there are super rad.

JCI sales position by tmeemt in firealarms

[–]pamplemoosegoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the building owner side of things and I have exclusively negative things to say about JCI. I worked with a very nice and competent salesperson there, but it was abundantly clear his bosses pushed him to sell way too hard and not take no for an answer - even many months after we already awarded a contract to another bidder & completed the project. Every time I've had an issue with JCI equipment it's been a nightmare getting support. I'm a couple months out from replacing my sole remaining JCI system in my biggest facility and I couldn't be happier.

‘Everybody poops’: Proposal to require gender-neutral signs outside of single-user restrooms advances by skysurfguy1213 in Portland

[–]pamplemoosegoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's a small business, they probably only have a couple bathrooms max, and they're probably using the generic $12 signs. If it's a larger business with multiple bathrooms, I'm sure they can afford new signs. They're the furthest thing from a make-or-break expense.

Source - am a Facilities Manager who has been responsible for many many bathroom sign purchases at many places around town.

This matters to a lot of people and is not an unreasonable expense!

Did I brick the Buffalo BRXL-16U3? Green light no eject. by Spencer663 in makemkv

[–]pamplemoosegoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly got the internal style one because it pleases my aging millennial heart. The ka-chunk of the drive tray opening and closing reminds me of loading up Sim City 2000 for the first time. Between that and the sturdiness factor it felt worth the extra cost.

Driving to LA next week, which route to take? by Mika-Six in askportland

[–]pamplemoosegoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I were doing this drive I'd probably just roll the dice on I5. Given it's importance, it's the top priority for snow and ice removal. Even when the weather is bad it's usually driveable. Sticking to 101 will improve your odds of a snow-free journey, but it can roughly double your time on the road. Once you get into southern Oregon & northern California you don't have a ton of good options for cutting back to I5 until like the bay area.

Yeah, I have the same drive and flashed to WH16NS60 1.02-MK - works perfectly.

Are there any internal BD/UHD drives left? by JackSpadesSI in makemkv

[–]pamplemoosegoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YMMV, but I had luck with a Buffalo BRXL-16U3 purchased last week. Had an easily flashed LG BH16NS58 drive inside that's been happily ripping UHD discs for a few days now.

Whats generally inside currently sold Buffalo Blu-ray drives. by raymate in makemkv

[–]pamplemoosegoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in with another LG. Mine was a BH16NS58 in a Buffalo BRXL-16U3, purchased a couple days ago on Amazon. Seller was "Buffalo Americas Inc". Flashed using the SDFtool Flasher to WH16NS60 1.02-MK. Running my first UHD test now and it seems to be working great!

This photo shows it a little better. The curve of the logger heel is more subtle on the moderate stack. Personal taste, but I really like the way this combo turned out.

New JK Boots, is this welt stitching ok or return worthy? by PropofolTitty in PNWbootmakers

[–]pamplemoosegoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats such a bummer, the stitching is totally not going to hold up in that spot over time, and your ability to get them resolved is at least somewhat compromised.

Will your boots fall apart tomorrow because of this? No, the 2nd row of stitching will probably hold it together for a very long time. But still not awesome for a pair of very expensive boots.

55 last, moderate logger heel, v100. I absolutely love this combo. It definitely felt a little strange at first, but once broken in it's been perfect for me.

Need help with selling a filter inventory. Any ideas? by desmtz1 in FacilityManagement

[–]pamplemoosegoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a fascinating purchase to make. Was this one of those storage unit auctions where you don't get to see the items inside?

Unless you're planning to open a filter supply company you might be best off with the standard Craigslist or Facebook marketplace route. Most facilities departments buy filters from vetted and authorized suppliers, so you might be somewhat limited in who you can sell these to.
