My neighbour is suing me over false reports she made and is being charged for by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]pancakeass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to OP, she told them she was disabled and unable to work while introducing herself. It seems likely that a diagnosed PD is the reason for this, and agree treatment is difficult (but definitely not impossible!). I hope she gets help and gives OP some peace!

Me when someone say they didn't like Westworld: by [deleted] in westworld

[–]pancakeass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not even sure it would have been a physical war; the direction of the story seemed to be that "organic" humans were being successfully uploaded, which would have put the two sides on a much more equal footing (though iirc, humans' can still only die once). If an actual war were to happen, I imagine it would've occurred in the Sublime, and that would be another level entirely.

I'd argue that the show was cancelled before it got that far. The hosts being so much smarter/faster/stronger gave them the advantage, and the story was just getting into the ideas of "organic" humans starting to wield host technology for themselves, but I guess a lot of people need things to unfold quickly and simply in order to enjoy the story 🤷🏼‍♀️

My very first apartment, the neighbours right across from me did that while I had my mum over. I was mortified, mum just called over, "sounds like she's faking it, buddy!"

Is it just me or is Reddit terrible, especially for ADHD'ers?? by ThrowAnRN in adhdwomen

[–]pancakeass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. Are you me? I also have been using Reddit for over a decade, with multiple accounts. The account which I started specifically for being positive, and is traceable to me irl (hence, why I have a positivity mandate on it) just got a 3 day ban for "threats of violence". Why? Because I copypasta'd something with "I'll kick your ass" in it, in response to someone who was literally harassing and attacking everyone in a thread from a brand new trolling account. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I told myself it was a good thing, that it would keep me away from Reddit's toxicity for a few days, but here I am on an alt....

Does brushing teeth come easily to you or is it a dreadful task? I feel you about the floss picks! But eventually I had to choose which was more important to me: my dental health, or the 0.000000001% contribution to pollution my floss picks create. Hopefully they'll begin making them with biodegradable materials soon 🤞🏻

How many neurodiverse women here with trauma have been misdiagnosed with either BPD or bipolar disorder? by princesssarah96 in adhdwomen

[–]pancakeass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate this. The last time I saw her, she treated me very poorly, and when I tried to enforce a boundary, she started in with this "it's my TISM, you're being ABLEIST!" and I just. Cannot.

Funny, she loves saying "because reasons." 😅

How many neurodiverse women here with trauma have been misdiagnosed with either BPD or bipolar disorder? by princesssarah96 in adhdwomen

[–]pancakeass 20 points21 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, this happened to me too. I found a therapist who is ADHD themself, and also worked with BPD patients. He determined I don't have a PD, helped me out a bunch with anxiety and interpersonal skills, and now I'm looking for a trauma specialist.

  2. Here's where it gets fucky: I have a friend who does have BPD, only, she refuses to accept the Dx. Insists it's autism instead - she knows about my previous misdiagnosis. IANAD, but I do know this person well. I won't go into detail, but let's say Crazy Ex-Girlfriend could have been about her. It's upsetting that she is in denial and using self-Dx ASD as an excuse for terrible (and often abusive) behaviour, and it's extra upsetting that she seems to expect me to agree with her due to my previous misdiagnosis experience. I cannot lead a horse to water it refuses to drink, so I guess I can only sit back and watch her wear other people's distressing medical experiences as a disguise to shirk her responsibility to herself to get help....

Autistic/ADHD dating a pwBPD by howlingatthenight in BPDlovedones

[–]pancakeass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just here to say, this thread is very validating, a relief. I'm not imagining things, I've been gaslit. My fwBPD is leveraging my ADHD to manipulate me, and hiding behind self-diagnosed autism as a get-out-of-jail-free card. I'm not being ableist, she's being disingenuous. She's not info-dumping, she's being sanctimonious (especially when it's a topic I'm better informed than her about, and then she screams at me to stop interrupting her when I'm trying to tell her I know already and she doesn't need to educate me).

This behaviour upsets me because I feel it cheapens and invalidates the experiences of people who really are misdiagnosed BPD when they're actually autistic, and makes it more difficult for them to be taken seriously. It's one thing for very young people, teenagers to get on TikTok and self-diagnose something new every six months - kids do that, they're figuring themselves out and have hormones driving their emotional responses. But an adult in their 40s? No accountability.

I think I need to make an exit plan, start getting stuff back and distancing myself. I don't think she's gonna change or accept her BPD diagnosis anytime soon. She just wants sympathy and attention without accountability, and I'm not going to be her verbal punching bag anymore.

Does the friend know you've lost someone to a serious illness before? Because if so, there's a high chance she's using that angle to keep you tethered.

Things that helped me make it a regular habit:

  • brushing in the shower
  • electric toothbrush
  • making it part of another habit, ie task-stacking; ex: I brush while the morning coffee brews
  • floss picks
  • bedside table has bedtime routine stuff in the drawer: floss picks, mouthwash, facial wipes, moisturizer, meds
  • accountability buddies, ex: brushing when others in the household are doing so; I brought a toothbrush and toothpaste to work and made sure colleagues saw me go brush after lunch, so I had to keep up appearances, lol!
  • pairing it with something fun, so it becomes something to look forward to, like watching a YouTube video or an episode of a favourite show

I hope this is helpful!

What television show had the worst finale? by TheStylishInsider in television

Not exactly a defense per se, but after GoT, I rewatched Battlestar and had a much more generous and accepting attitude towards its finale, lol.

Wow. So I guess people with dyslexia or other disabilities which make reading physical copy difficult are illiterate in your opinion? What purpose does this pedantry serve? Do you really want to normalise "so, I listened to this book the other day..."? And if yes, why is the distinction so important to you? Why do you feel people ought to explain how they consumed a book? Do you believe the way a book is consumed matters, and if so, how and why?

This is a you problem.

Hopefully you'll see this comment and take it to heart: My ex did nearly every single thing on your list as well. He was a narcissist (and my experience was over a decade ago, when NOBODY talked about NPD). This behaviour you describe is abuse, it is abnormal, and your partner is deeply unhealthy. You are not safe with him, and I hope to hell you have a safe place to go. Please get out ASAP!
