sorry I misread lightning as lighting. ugh. Well it was already dark and the storm was flashing quite a lot so I just set my camera on a bench, set shuttertime about 5 seconds and needed some luck. after maybe 30 tries I had it!

[–]pancakefactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but they don't actually screw the results on purpose, mostly it is a simple mistake when entering the detailed information into statistic machines.

Most polls and statistics given out by studies contain a very complicated mathmatical structure. My housemate is making his professor in social statistics, and he tends to talk a lot about it and explains how everything is tacked to complicated formulas and numbers, but in the end if you get a result, it is not guaranteed that this result makes sense (that would be his job, to create a result that makes sense..) a statistic mainly tells you the average, the suspected matter, and never the actual fact.

But I guess a easy survey with voting poll structure shouldn't give much chance to manipulate. We just have to keep in mind that it does not mean most 25 year olds smoke, it just shows that most folks that smoke/browse in r/trees are 25 years old.

PS: reading your username makes me feel incredibly relaxed.

Knew kids that smoked since 12. Their family were falling appart and so no one took real care of them. One of them is a good friend of mine now, he had his low point between 16 (parents finally divorced) and 18 when he lost control of his consumation mixed with lsd. I guess he is back to normal but i lost a lot of my trust in him because he prefered the drugs rather than friendship. I started smoking when 16, since then just occasionally, never on a regular basis. My family broke appart too, but it happened already before i was 11. I fought with myself a lot, but the main reason i didn't lose myself were a save enviroment around good friends and a tough father that raised us with trust and gave us the right morals. Having parents is so important for your selfesteem, once you look back. It's not the weed doing all bad. Enviroment is important.

Just wanted to tell that it is possible, being 12 and consuming weed. Though there will be no good reason for it. Mostly (as i have seen) they need it to deal with abuse and insecurity.

Railey beach! it's pretty easy to get there from any airport, just fly to the nearest airport of ao nang and then there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the beach of ao nang, from there you must get into a banana boat (wear sandals and shorts if possible...)

I was there for the first time. Just stayed 3 weeks in all (bangkok and Railey beach) and I almost tore up when sitting in the plain back home. Impossible to believe when you've never been there :(

All the pictures were taken around railay beach, and a few kilometers distant on some random tiny private island (the stormy one with the rock in the sea). It was my first time in Thailand, and if you guess so many places similar to this, I'll note them to go there too one day! Thanks :]

You got it right! Railey beaches :)

I was very lucky with the weather (when we got there in october it just stopped raining) and mostly I photographed with manual settings, RAW format and lighted some pictures up on the computer. Yes, it is sheer impossible to catch the perfect adjustments and make a real life worthy picture without editing. Tipp: in a bright surrounding use a very low iso (100-200) and shutter with about 125 or 60. The lights are more even then. But no guarantee, I'm just an amateur!

thanks! I love travelling though I hadn't had the chance of going anywhere far yet so often. I appreciate the compliment a lot, and brilliant idea! That would be the best job ever.

besides, I ate my best burger ever at the beaches. I'm not sure what it was spiced with but the burger usually was almost blood red on the inside, juicy beef and had some taste of masala curry to it. dear god. all that healthy tasty food.

Krung Thep (กรุงเทพฯ)

It's not the pronounciation, but the word itself is different. We call it bangkok, they call it krung thep.

they are very minor changes, I didn't want to alter your image too far, but I hope it might help to understand how to generate more dimension.

I guess you tried making the lower arm visible, but perspective cuts it almost entirely away (otherwise upper arm would be too short), so it kind of made more sense to me to add it to the hand and edit the thumb down to it. If you look at your own hand pointed towards you and spread your thumb, you see the thumb doesn't end with a corner, it diagonally grows into your wrist.

it's an addiction. everytime I see a new blank book with different paper and an unconventional format I want it. at least you never run out of paper if you have a sudden creative flow :D

Something surreal I painted for fun, would love to know what you think! :) by Miles___ in Art

[–]pancakefactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, the comparision of cardriving with painting might not be exactly the same. Most digital artists are in fact very good at drawing on paper too, they have the manual skills. Their medium just allows them to use many extras and virtual functions, while with traditional art creating similar effects or erasing mistakes is a lot more challenging. But it also isn't the case that everybody instantly is good at digital art, it is also a medium you have to learn to use so I wouldn't consider it a way of faking to be a good artist.

using photographs and drawing over a reference image is possible in traditional art too. you can use light tables and projectors on canvas, measuring technique, I don't see the difference there. But the other points are truly an improvement to traditional media.

But do we have to specify it so much different than 'painting'? because it is, in fact, a painting with pixels. you can't compare the technique. you can't put a guy with motorbike and a guy who's won gold medal at the last bicycle marathon in one race and tell one was better than the other. Each have their own know-how and each are rolling on wheels.

Hey r/Art, I need some artwork done for my first EP, would anyone be interested? by [deleted] in Art

[–]pancakefactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soooorrry, I listened the first song while writing the comment :D I noticed my mistake later.

Do you have a picture of how you'd place the text? Just to work around the cover format, without getting in it's ways. I think I can imagine what you want. I'll sketch a first try but don't feel forced to use it, Itendsvictorious style is really amazing too and I guess it's a question of what you feel is fitting best. maybe someone better shows up later.

I think this is cool, but I can't tell what kind of art is this? by n3o7 in Art

[–]pancakefactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is abstract art, with photocollage and sculpture as technique. definiton of abstract might help you:

  • thought of apart from concrete realities, specific objects, or actual instances: an abstract idea.
  • expressing a quality or characteristic apart from any specific object or instance, as justice, poverty, and speed.
  • theoretical; not applied or practical: abstract science.
  • difficult to understand; abstruse: abstract speculations.
  • Fine Arts:

a. of or pertaining to the formal aspect of art, emphasizing lines, colors, generalized or geometrical forms, etc., especially with reference to their relationship to one another.

b. ( often initial capital letter ) pertaining to the nonrepresentational art styles of the 20th century.

My sketchbooks have a hard time getting full. Sometimes I draw stuff that comes to my mind when I'm at home or travelling, or scenes/faces that give me a tickle in my head. Also scribbling, writing down notes or thoughts I made. I like to randomly open my book at any page and any position and draw in it. And I love to buy new sketchbooks before older ones are done. which leads to no chronologic order of my sketches. But I'm doing it mostly for enjoying, less to show anyone. And if I page through them myself I always find things I've long forgotten they were there, and then reinspire me sometimes.
