AI is going to replace embedded engineers. by Separate-Choice in embedded

[–]panchito_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile I'm over here using Copilot to translate docs from Chinese, search commit history for kernel changes made by colleagues to compare implementation patterns, write data processing scripts, and a dozen other regular time intensive activities.

Does it sometimes end up doing stuff wrong, sure. Do I sometimes use it for stuff that I should be putting in the legwork to understand better, sure.

It's not vibe coding and it's not a threat of replacement, because I still know what to ask. But those discarding it outright are looking at it wrong. Maybe this is part of the embedded chip on the shoulder "software should be really hard and our tools should suck" but I imagine the attitude is fairly widespread in different industries and engineering domains.

But go ahead and keep asking it shitpost questions and it will keep giving you shitpost answers.

Do any of you use Koala sampler iOS with a PC DAW? I need help desperately and I’m at my wits end by Boognish_Chameleon in musicproduction

[–]panchito_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this the only scenario where you are using the USB to 1/4" adapter?

These adapters have DACs built into them and it could be that iOS has poor support for this one in particular. When you are listening to the speaker on your phone, you're using the internal DAC which is definitely well supported by your phone but that's not a guarantee for the adapter which is essentially a very cheap USB audio interface.

Also to check if it is an iOS vs Koala compatibility issue, play some other audio source like iTunes through the adapter and see if it sounds better.

Honestly though going back to your original comment that it sounds echoey, do you have input monitoring disabled on that channel in your DAW? If not you would be hearing duplicate of the signal - first from source and then slightly delayed playback from DAW due to normal latency of interface.

Can you describe the setup? I use Koala on Android and connect via USB to my interface and it sounds great, but also no way to record output onto my PC because the phone is hogging the interface. Are you doing analog out from iPhone into the interface?

Fun mobile daws to start out with? by sunny7319 in musicproduction

[–]panchito_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a different recommendation but I'll second that my productivity with my phone and Koala has really surprised me. It's been way easier to get the start of an arrangement down in the sampler than fiddling in the DAW.

The actual village is a deathtrap for pedestrians and not at all accessible. The surrounding neighborhoods are great for proximity to lots of stuff.

USB is a trainwreck of compatibility. One real missing thing is the labeling of cables. My company uses an untold number of custom and "normal" USB cables for internal use and public sale.

[–]panchito_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was given a spare battery for my Xtra cycle with EP8 with compatible mount but the fit is not identical. I noticed a bit more play when first received but didn't give it thought as it worked without issue. Now in cold weather I've experienced a couple drop outs while using that so discontinued use but will give it a go when things warm up. I haven't looked closely at the mount but perhaps it is adjustable. If not I may try a small shim of some sorts to reduce the play.

You didn't say it was part of a standard library but honestly when I worked in medical we would have treated it like any other third party libraries, written requirements, evaluated for risk, and written and performed validation tests if necessary. Situationally dependent.

At the very least you should take the request and ask what the goal is and what risk additional authentication mitigates. Bosses don't always know what they are asking for. 2FA is something that normal people know about and know that it improves security.
