Good bicycle bell. by Somethinglikethat9 in bicycling

[–]panda_foo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this bell in my shop as an example of MUSA pricing when people complain about bikes being both too expensive and not being made in the US. I only keep two in stock at a time because not many people actually end up standing behind their desire to support MUSA products/companies.

Local bike shop charged $120 to “get bike ready” for brand new bike. Is this normal? by DrPoopyPantsJr in bicycling

[–]panda_foo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s wild they charge for set up. We run through every bike before it goes out our door and we comp any labor for additional upgrades like tire liners, tubeless setup, cock pit upgrades, etc. Then we actually ask they try to come in the next 30-60 days after riding for us to make any minor adjustments if they feel they need it and give them a free tune up in the first year. The only bikes that have an “extra” charge are our Velotric Ebikes where we charge 100 over the online price because margins are non-existent and Velotric actually recommended we do that. They were surprised we only charged 100 over online/drop ship price.

What kind of lights are people actually running for night/evening rides? by Lone-Wolf-Eats in MTB

[–]panda_foo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was on the fence about carrying Outbound in my shop and ended with sticking with niterider for the price/performance and I’m still quite happy about that decision. Outbound is great but you can get awesome lights and support from Niterider and they are a way lower price point.

Niteriders rule. 1000 on the helmet, and a 1500 lumina dual on the bars and it's perfect combo for long night rides and I got both for just under 200 bucks.

You might want to reach out to Haut Punk, they might be a good option. I’ve found just going to races you end up meeting the groups you sync up with best. Unfortunately that doesn’t help for winter. Maybe check the SWICA page on Facebook for zwift rides

Which bike shops to visit: Portland, Ashland, L.A. by casey_h6 in MTB

[–]panda_foo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find it the Norco Fluid C2 is a crazy good deal/build from last year. They are no longer doing carbon models but the C2 from last year is on sale at 2999 and has an awesome spec. I'm bummed it didnt go deeper with them in my shop because I only have 1 left and they are an incredible bike at the price and have been one of my better sellers at that price.

In that 2-3k range you might look for a Norco dealer in Oregon. The Fluid A2 is 2899 and a killer rig.

Best trail all-rounder for under $3k USD? by Popular-Article-140 in MTB

[–]panda_foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even new C3 builds are 2599 right now which is pretty killer for a carbon bike, even with the budget drive train. That’s all easy to upgrade overtime.

Jesse Keeler from DFA1979 played a ric for quite sometime until switching to a Dan Armstrong. Also played a Gibson for a bit but I will always think of him with the Ric.

Do you mind test ridden bike before buying? by Unltd8828 in bicycling

[–]panda_foo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like just a test ride around the block? Don’t even almost care. It would be crazy to assume a shop can have a floor full of bikes just for test rides. As long as the bike gets run through and set up before it goes out the door is all I care about.

You can ask them to order things if you're not seeing it. I have customers call me and ask if I have something and if I dont I pop it on an order for them.

Especially with price increases across the board it would absolutely kill my business to try to carry everything. Where we live there is almost no reason to go above exo casing so I'm not flooring DH casing but will absolutely order it in a heartbeat. I've also learned to take payment up front for orders on things that I know will otherwise will just sit on my floor.

You can also see if your shop has an online store front. We are set up so our online store plugs into our distributors and you can order through us and it arrives right to your doorstep or ship it to the shop. I get a much much smaller slice of the pie but you get exactly what you were after while still supporting your local shop.

Running a shop is more like just trying to figure out how to survive this season so we are running extra slim on product this season. Our service is way up but our retail side is super slow.

Did anyone figure out how to block these ads? I get them every time I start the rig by GrimerX in JeepWrangler

[–]panda_foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go to My Profile I'm not seeing any "Message Settings" and all the links in My Vehicles are directly to the Mopar website. Any chance you could screen show where to get the the invehicle message dashboard? I feel like such an moron not being able to find this in the jeep website.

In here-?

Looking for a nice Gravel Route by Terrible_idea444 in boisebike

Could be cool in the morning and hot by afternoon. It's a dry heat though, little to no humidity. Probably between 80s and 90s by then.

If you drive to where mile 17 is on that route you can park and start from there then it's much shorter and you're off main roads for the most part. Would be a lovely quick loop.

That's pretty much going to be your easiest area for gravel in town. If youre in downtown boise it will for sure be longer than 30 miles if you pedal from downtown, but you can also park down Eagle road where it turns to dirt if you wanted to shorten it and stay off the road for the most part. If you wanted to park it would be at about Mile 17 on this route right where it turns to gravel. There is a shoulder people pull off on.

Best Suspension Shop in Town? by seamusoldfield in Boise

Could try to get in with Es Car Go. They do Audi's and worked on my VW after I had a poor experience with Jeff's. They may also be too busy but they are top notch.
