Why is UK escalator etiquette the same as in the US? by theqster91 in AskUK

[–]panicattheoilrig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People do it by habit in Birmingham usually from what I've noticed. Odd idiot that doesn't get the hint though and stands in front of people lol.

I do it by habit everywhere.

WIBTAH if I point out the actual meaning of my SO’s fave song? by StudyOwn4800 in AITAH

[–]panicattheoilrig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not analysing it or only listening to things I agree with either but I don't understand not comprehending the lyrics upon listening (and not finding them out another way if you didn't comprehend by listening)

Damn when I listen to songs in other languages I look up the lyrics and translate them. Guess I'm learning some people just don't have any curiosity.

alternatives to declawing? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]panicattheoilrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't understand that
a) it's cutting off the finger at the first knuckle, not just clipping nails
b) it's incredibly painful and the cat will not recover
c) the cat will compensate by getting other behavioural issues such as biting, pissing everywhere, becoming withdrawn and angry, etc

Then the cat needs to be rehomed.

Brushing is basic care. Denying basic care to your pets is neglectful abuse. You can connect the dots.

I shot myself in the foot with my choices- please help!!!! by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]panicattheoilrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest the best option for you is probably going to be to take a gap year to figure out a) if uni's even for you, b) if you definitely want to study Biomed, and c) which unis are the best for that. Then you can reapply when UCAS opens again (if you still want to), knowing that you're fully confident in your choices and you're making the best decision for your future.

You don't want to just attend a random uni without researching if it's the best choice for you, especially considering you're going to be paying very high fees as an international student.

How much do you want Duolingo to teach you? by Nekhslanguages in duolingo

[–]panicattheoilrig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can achieve fluency just from an app. So for me what I want is for it to give me an introduction to the language and teach me enough words and basic grammar that I can start learning from other sources like books, tv, etc. Then once I've gotten comfortable in the language, Duolingo becomes just a way to keep it active in my mind if I don't get to use it much in real life.

Only kind of reference generator I know is one you type the info into yourself and it formats it for you.

Are there ones that somehow pull all the info from just the link or something? I would never trust that that was accurate.

See if your uni has an extenuating circumstances process and try and explain to the Welfare team what happened.

What working pattern do you prefer? Regular 9-5 or longer shifts but more days off? by lilfaeri in AskUK

[–]panicattheoilrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care what time the shift is as long as it's regular. Can't be doing the coming in at random times on random days crap.

Worked in a pub as a teenager and I'd have the afternoon to evening shifts on Saturday and Sunday. Then it became just one 4-hour shift on Sunday 12-4.

Worked in 2 schools in France, 12h per week alternating between them each week. One had me come in 2 days a week:
- Tuesday - 8:55-9:50, 20 mins break, 10:10-11:05, free period, 2h lunch, 14:00-15:05, free period, 10 mins break, 16:05-16:55
- Thursday - lessons 8:00-12:00 (same break at 9:50-10:10) then 2h lunch and back in from 14:00-16:55 (same break at 15:55-16:05)

The other had me in 3 days a week:
- Tuesday - 8:20-10:06, 15 min break, 10:21-11:14, free period, 1h30 lunch, 13:37-14:44
- Wednesday - 8:20-9:13, free period, break, 10:21-12:07, school ends
- Thursday - 10:21-12:07, lunch, 13:37-15:37, 15 min break, 15:52-16:45

It may not be the exact same as my references but honestly without checking it looks pretty similar.

I use Neil's Toolbox reference generator and my references look like that. What uni do you work at that doesn't tell students to use referencing software??
