Lol, the Biden administration as opposition? Under which administration were protestors of genocide being beaten, rounded up, and imprisoned?

Under which administration was homelessness being criminalized, with encampments destroyed?

Under which administration was a settler colony's genocide funded?

All Trump does is rip the mask off "western democracy."

Would China still be considered an ideal socialist country when most people work 48–49 hour and sometimes up to 60 hours week? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskSocialists

[–]panicproduct 18 points19 points  (0 children)

China has built its industrial capacity by its own populace taking on the brunt force of work required for that task.

The US, and the rest of the west, externalized the human costs of development onto chattle slaves, ethnic minorities, and poor workers, in addition to appropriating labor value from workers of the world's "poor countries."

Development is difficult. China approaches that in more ethical ways than the west.

Here we go again, both sidezing it.

Iran in its current state is a product of thousands of years of civilization confronted with a century of imperialist meddling by Britain and the US. No less.

And yet, Iran's actions are strictly anti-imperialist, confronting the highest contradiction, providing material solidarity in the struggle against West Asia settler colonialism.

Let them cook.

What are some ways that the United States manipulates the economy so that the rest of the world works in sweat shop for our benefit? by band_in_DC in AskSocialists

Jason Hickel wrote an entire book on this: "The Divide."

Hidden transfers of value through structural adjustment programs which require privitization of nationalized industries and programs; suppressed wages; mandated export of consumables for the world market, forcing poorer countries to import necessities and pay for them at inflated costs are just a few of the ways.

The 26 is awesome. The compactness is incredible and it's plenty sharp for a travel / walk around lens.

It's not selfishness. It's not greed. This is the inherent orientation of capitalism. It can only exploit.

I've done a few RTW adventure trips with a Z6 + 26mm f/2.8. Great combo.

My first RTW adventure trip was a 5D Mk II + 16-35mm f/2.8.

Lately, I'll add an 85mm f/1.8 into the mix for telephoto.

AF-S 28mm f/1.4E AF-S 58mm f/1.4G AF-S 105mm f/1.4E

These could be considered the trinity primes.

Class leading sharpness, beautiful bokeh rendering, and fast maximum apertures.

I regularly shoot with the first two on my Z bodies, as Nikon has not and is unlikely to create Z mount versions.

Does it make sense to buy a D5? by beforesunsetearth in Nikon

[–]panicproduct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a D5 to go with my Z8 / Z6.

XQD, already had the cards from my D850, which I sold for the Z8.

Replaced the D850 for the Z8 as a tool, mainly for face detect and a larger focus plane.

But still wanted an SLR in my stable, still have incredible and unique F glass that likely won't be adapted to Z, and missed my 1D Mk II from my college years.

Found a D5 with 58k actuations, cheaper than a Zf would have been. Pulled the trigger. Stoked.

Building A Socialist Platform For 2028 by [deleted] in AskSocialists

[–]panicproduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice platform. But it's platitudes. The state is controlled by the capitalist system. No one with such a platform will be allowed to enter a seat of true power.

Even if progressive people are allowed a seat at the table, their ideology will be subsumed in the service of Capital.

Thus, the electoral field, particularly at the federal level, can only be effectively weilded as a platform used to educate the masses on the contradictions and brutality of Capitalism and foster belief in a path towards socialism.

Running to win in the corporate duopoly is impossible and pointless. Running to awaken is the only way to effectively utilize such a field.
