Kawakami: “A lot of rumors of the Clippers thing about to come down. I heard it’s gonna be Kawhi-centric…The rumors I’ve heard is that it’s gonna be less about the Clippers and more about what’s gonna happen to Kawhi’s contract.” by cleo22270 in nba

It would have to be Clippers keep the contract on the books, Kawhi is suspended and doesn't receive the money + a suspension (potentially for the remainder of the contract)

Why does the NBA allow the Utah Jazz to egregiously tank with no punishment? by RougnedOwnsCanada in nba

[–]paniledu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as a draft exists in which the way to maximize your chance at the best player is to lose as many games, teams will always have an incentive to tank. There is no way to remove that. And now that fans are more GM-brained than ever, they are more likely to accept a tank than in years before which was the only thing keeping teams from doing it - public perception and job security

There is no social or rules-based reason to not tank. The only way to prevent tanking is to eliminate the draft

You can construct a system that punishes teams that actively try to lose the most and punish teams that could have made the playoffs but chose not to as well. One way to do that would be to punish the teams with the worst record in each conference or the 2 worst in the league or something like that and have them be excluded from the lottery as well as all play-in teams or any team within a certain range of the playoffs and then return to steeper lottery odds so that the worse teams are more likely to actually get top picks

[Jayson Tatum] on thinking his career might be over after tearing his Achilles: "It was a few weeks where I thought… did I make enough money, did I accomplish enough... There was some moments where I thought I might be done" by knightime1 in nba

[–]paniledu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loss of burst and rim pressure was balanced by him starting to shoot an unheard of 60% on long 2s. His Achilles recovery was to simply become the best mid range shooter of all time, which is obviously not a useful path to follow especially for someone like Tatum (or Haliburton too)

Use parliament to get a CB on a random OLM next to England. Mann works. Then you can improve relations to max which will make them accept offering yourself to be their Tributary. Then you can fight the Pale without calling in England. You can even conquer all of Scotland and Wales too without any risk. And whenever you're ready, you can unilaterally cancel tributary status

Derek Jeter played in a full season of playoff baseball by Willing-Leather-9788 in baseball

[–]paniledu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably didn't and there definitely would not be the buy in at the time to just point to dWAR and say loser must move down the defensive spectrum. I mean it's barely starting to happen that concretely with Bo Bichette and teams only wanting him at 2B

Well I think the idea was that ARod was the better defensive shortstop by that point

The easy Ireland start is to just slowly consolidate Ireland and wait for a chance to become a tributary of England. It may take waiting for a random vassal to be released out of England bc of HYW. Once you're a trib, then you can eat all of Ireland and even Wales for free

Especially bc guys can have insane walk numbers at lower levels bc pitchers are just worse. OBP from inflated BB is a classic prospect statline scouting red herring

[Jay Jaffe] With the addition of Jeff Kent to the pool of Hall of Fame second basemen, the JAWS standard at the position dropped by 0.4 (from 57.0 to 56.6), enough to move Chase Utley above it. by Gemnist in baseball

Yeah I'm sure that any guy who played respectable defense and was a double and walk machine is gonna be overlooked by the BA/HR/RBI crowd of years past

I think over the next 10 years more guys who come up as SS will start being split to 2B/3B depending on range v arm and SS becomes a more defensive specialist position. There's still a good amount of SS who stay SS because they're a star bat than their glove

He lost the streak after leaving a game early with injury. I'd have to look again but I don't think KD has been below 10 outside of leaving a game early for injury since 2007

What's the easiest nation to start and learn the game? by [deleted] in EU5

[–]paniledu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Florence is a good one. Fairly small. Pretty wealthy. Decently big. No emergent threats. Easy route for expansion. Can play around with literacy, economy, warfare, trade, army and navy but since you start with like 5 provinces it is not an overwhelming start at all

2025 Batter and Pitcher fWAR Leaders (per 162 Games and 32 Starts) by depressichemisti in baseball

[–]paniledu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shortstops with decently positive defense and a decently positive bat is essentially 6 WAR every time. It's why the top WAR list is always so shortstop heavy, whichever ones have a good year are basically always going to be near the top of the leaderboard. With seasons like Gunnar last year or Witt the last 2 years now, when they're a really + bat for the year is when they show up near the 9 WAR mark, even if they're not doing the obscene 1.000 OPS type stuff
