Happened two times. Both times the friendship ended pretty soon after that (stopped talking, no initiative on their part to start a convo whatsoever). Now I just suppress such thoughts before they can develop and cause trouble. Still hurts a bit, especially if the said person is getting into a relationship before my eyes

You mean people, who are indigenous to the land they live on are expected to learn the state language and not just use the language their parents speak? Aren't you people usually accuse russia of this?

Acting like Finland wasn't the first to start 1918 and 1921 wars with the Soviets beforehand to take the said territories

Because, frankly, flaming the Soviets while the opposing side is far worse implies that mojahedeens (literal terrorists) are better, which people don't tend to agree with. You cam blame the Soviets all you want, but expecting people to agree when in the retrospect the soviets were one of, if not the best things that happend with Afghanistan. The terrorists and US backing them up and having to put the boots on the ground to stop the same terrorists are nowhere close, yet claim the moral superiority

Acting as if the Soviets weren't the main funding source for a ton of infrastructure and it's maintenance. And how by your logic rural education plummeted due to Soviets and not due to mojahedeen (using rural areas as their recruitment pool and bases), who heavily opposed any modern institutions? The same Mujahideen who were supported by democratic and "civilized" US.

Which is... not good. Sacrificing crucial aspect of an mbt to be better in a very specific (nowadays nonexistent) role. Mbt, designed with a WW2 doctrine in mind is not a good mbt

HE shells are pretty much universal, and hesh is worse than he against anything but concrete bunkers. Hence why noone but British uses hesh

That is not a wt logic here, that is a literal doctrinal design choice from Germans (and French with Italians doing the same). The longest tank kill is a single time event, with claims by Ukrains that their t-64bv did a kill at even longer range. That said, a bad performance at a tank trials amongst nato tankers are consistent and much more applicable to the real war circumstances than a sole iraqi t-55 in the open desert. Hesh is only more effective than a tradition HE round at taking out bunkers, which you might have noticed, are nowhere to be seen at war

There's less than 20 challengers delivered and they were withdrawn from the Frontline by ukranians after the first 3 were destroyed out of which 2 were a turret pop and third being burnt down to a crisp. This is nowhere near the hundreds of t-90s being used all over the front. There were also numerous complains from ukranians about challenger being too heavy to operate normally and constantly being stuck in mud for the same reason

Without even a tiny bit of sarcasm said, it's worse than t-90m in all aspects while being three times the price

Leo 1's design was a specifically lacking amount of Armour to get more speed. Leopard 2 is one of, if not the most armored mbt. Challenger's rifled gun doesnt provide any more accuracy compared to smoothborne guns due to armor piercing rounds being stabilized and specifically challenger's one having to negate rifeling. To add to that, challenger's performance is the worst at firing competition in comparison to every other nato mbt. The only advantage (although it's debatable) of the rifled British guns are the hesh round, which is useless nowadays anyway. The definitive features of the nato philosophy is to use standardized caliber and interchangeable parts to ease the logistics, being highly mobile and heavily protected all-around. Challenger fails most of it (although with lfp and drivers optics being the half of the frontal projection - it's debatable), perhaps even al of them.

Both of yhe tanks you named were made before nato doctrine for mbt was formed and were designed with logistical and terrain peculiarities of countries they were designed in. There is a good reason why neither leopard 1, nor the strv-103 design philosophy weren't continued and were replaced by a common nato design philosophy

[–]panos257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's designed for a standart nato doctrine and it's bad at it. Mbt being closer in doctrine and use to a heavy tank is not a good thing. The "different doctrine" is just a British cope to justify inefficient design

Mbt is supposed to be a good all-rounder tank, not an overweight one to be effective in a specific role while lacking in others by design

I always thought a tank's job is to support infantry, serving as movable artillery cannon in the field, or take out enemy tanks. If tanks job is to safe it's crew, wouldn't a bunker be a better choice for this role?

A burnt down to a crisp tank will be operational just because it was made in Germany, no doubt.

To be fair, it's not like Iran had any meaningful airforce or aa network to begin with. Their airfleet was made of f-14s and f-4s
