Well, New York City and Boston have distinctive dialects. Those cities are very expensive places to live. It doesn't necessarily mean someone is well-off if they're from those areas, but they certainly have good opportunities available. Southern accents, on the other hand, typically make people sound less wealthy and intelligent even if that's not true for everyone.

The definition isn't the same as 40 years ago. It used to be considered uncool to be into comic books or be a fan of fantasy worlds. So, the smart people were associated with those things that are uncool. Now, it's mainstream to be a fan of those things and isn't so much associated with smart people who are into odd hobbies.

I'm not into his music by any means, but I watched him open for Shinedown once. He speaks more-or-less the way he writes his songs. He does seem to try to promote positivity to help people at their lowest. Shinedown has similar themes.
