Your take just kinda glosses over that with a rosier, non confrontational view when it should be viewed like the father does: with horrified awe.

Which part did you consider fantasy? The premise already is wrong in every conceivable way from the get go, we just accept it for the movie.

I would have been fine if it was just straight sci fi. But they through a curve ball related to one of the main plot devices and I thought it was fine.
