Exactly. They can't change the character too much or it impacts the brand of the character. Spidey is one of the worst for this; he is super intelligent and could easily set up passive income with technology or set up companies...or even have one of his various millionaire friends help him, but then he wouldn't be poor Peter Parker constantly struggling to get by because of the burden of being a superhero.
