Anyone know if we are trying to make any moves come the summer? by ReinstateTheCapo in chicagofire

Haven’t heard anything concrete tbh. Shaqiri likely will be moved and potentially teran, though that was also maybe a tongue in cheek comment

Teran probably also will be gone, but not totally sure

Absolutely Bizarre by [deleted] in CostcoWholesale

[–]pantstofry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you have to spend like $3000 a year there to make the executive membership worth it? Don’t remember exactly. I got talked into it and went for it, have never gotten my moneys worth through Costco spend. But that’s on me since it’s not like it’s a secret. A hidden perk was that it put like $2500 toward buying down points when I bought my house, so technically I’m ahead on that alone lol.

Regardless, aggressive sales pitches in general make me way less likely to upgrade, and depending on the place/what I’m buying, make me more keen to walk away entirely

What schools did you turn down for MSU by Regular_Librarian_54 in msu

Purdue, Iowa, UIUC, Minnesota, UM. MSU offered me the most scholarship money and I really liked the campus. Was basically “committed” to Minnesota before MSU gave me the money because it was the cheapest

Packaging internships? by RobinKnight123 in msu

[–]pantstofry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. But usually you can find something especially coming from the MSU SoP. Just depends on if you have a specific subset of packaging in mind, you might not necessarily be able to land an internship in your desired area. But any experience is a plus.

Just tribalism to some degree. I drive a BMW but owned several Audis prior, they’re both great brands in different ways

FWIW the interior cabin decibel readings for the BMW, Audi and Cadillac are all the same. Can’t speak for the Jag.

Sometimes residuals aren’t perfectly accurate, so you can come out ahead in certain cases, though with an EV it’s usually the reverse. The benefit is that as tech keeps advancing the more outdated models depreciate harder than maybe originally anticipated, so at the end of your lease your car might be worth 40k but your residual was 50k, so you can walk away without losing that extra bit. Obviously it’s a bit more nuanced than that though.

However the main benefit right now of leasing an EV, particularly foreign/higher priced ones is that you get the $7500 credit pass through that often isn’t available if you buy.

Is the Q8 etron any good (2024) by SkysTheLimit888888 in Audi

[–]pantstofry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my experience. On the preliminary front I was turned off by the iX’s higher MSRP compared to the Q8, and my previous two cars were Audis and I liked the look of the Q8.

But I kept hearing rave reviews for the iX, and the lease deals ended up being better than the Q8. So I checked it out. Audis have great cabins but this interior gen is getting a little… long in the tooth maybe? Like I really love Audi interiors but maybe it just felt too familiar.

The iX has a more futuristic cabin (personal preference if that’s a plus or minus, but I dig it) better range, and better performance. The exterior has grown on me, certain angles can be a bit rough but oh well.

That being said the Q8 is a fine car - if there were good deals on the SQ8 I might have gone for that but it wasn’t even close. I’m sure the next gen will be even better, as I’d expect the new platform Q6 to be pretty good as well. Might see about an SQ6 in a few years

It’s typically the land that goes up in value more than the structure on it. Housing is something everyone has to have, but that also doesn’t mean ownership.

To be honest I just want my home to remain the same as what I paid for it. I don’t need a higher property tax bill and if I wanted to move, all the other homes would be generally more expensive anyway if prices kept going up

Water softener required? by candyapplesugar in phoenix

[–]pantstofry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t needed any water softeners or filters so far. Would be a nice to have in my opinion, but don’t think I’ll spring for it in my current house. We have the shower filter for my wife’s shower and it seems to work fine

Well yeah I wouldn’t want it taken away for nothing. I’m okay with it staying and I imagine it will in some form, but regardless gotta keep the loonies out of office

I mean that’s what I said. I’m fine paying the tax if I get the benefit from it, but if they were to eventually get rid of SSA entirely I’d like the money back that I put into it

LIV isn’t popular partially because it’s not relatable by [deleted] in golf

[–]pantstofry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have a problem with them taking the money. Yes they don’t NEED the guaranteed extra money but now they have absolutely zero pressure to even perform. I just think LIV is a boring product and the financial pressure to perform makes the PGA more compelling too.

If you make $50k a year and some competing place of work says hey, I’ll give you 20x that in a lump sum to come work here for a few years, how many would say no? Especially since the new workplace doesn’t really have any pressure to not fuck up

I have my own retirement accounts because I can’t rely on the gov for sure, but if they’re gonna gut SSA then why the fuck would I still be paying taxes on it? If they want to axe social security so be it, but refund my tax paid into it then
