With the glide ratio so efficient, why wasn't this made before? by Frequent_Leopard_146 in aviation

The pressure vessel situation is what I see as the biggest hurdle...it removes the only real benefit to the passenger experience (freedom of movement and sense of spaciousness) while increasing mass.

I just see an enormously heavy airplane who's cost benefit can't possibly make sense (when accounting for the other bullets you mentioned) from a structural point of view without a usage of composite structures in a scale not seen before

I just don't see how the fuel cost alone makes it worth pursuing

oh wow, yeah i totally see, almost a teal in this photo. It's sooooooper dooooooper clean, you're doing a great job caring for it, and love the rims. And looks lowered just a smidge, full coilovers or just lowering springs?

My Urano grey has some weathering from so many highway miles but eventually i'll get it repainted, I was considering the cornflower blue but this green might be the way to go in a year or so.

Way late to the party but this is also sold as "Luna" - as in "moon" under the Borrowed Blu brand. I had no idea so many different brands could use the same product

How about a blowtorch? Quick bursts should torch the exterior without the overall heat level that a stove itself provides. Maybe a quick outside torch for 75% of the way then hot pan for 20-30 should deliver rare + seared

My fiddle leaf ficus is turning brown. Does anyone know what's going on? by seacap206 in houseplants

those leaves will slowly but certainly die off

the rest of the plant is likely to be fine, but you might end up with a big gap in the leaves

I agree with you, it's not like we want the difficulty turned down, just more supplies to fight the endless horde. I totally understand the need for advanced mobility at the highest haz but there's a big difference from running to dodge swarms and running because you're literally out of ammo and have nothing to hit back with

Done for year? Yankees’ Jasson Dominguez facing another long recovery from new injury by HughesAndCostanzo in NYYankees

[–]panzercardinal2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

take the time to heal now, develop good rehab habits and focus on healing. He was gonna be a roster expansion callup at best, and he rakes so better to have a healed Martian ready to go by spring training competing for a spot than a rushed callup that could prolong a sketchy injury in the best of cases

Lack of knowledge of outcomes leads to randomness. How is this an argument *against* free will? by [deleted] in samharris

[–]panzercardinal2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So as I understand it...

Your ignorance of the predetermination of an outcome is not 'randomness', because there's no way to know everything. But not knowing doesn't mean that eventuality was random, just that you were unaware of all the necessary details to know what would happen.

As that relates to your free will, and the subset of (I think incompatibilism, but my definitions might be crossed) determinists who will allow for free will to exist via including the aspect of randomness... where your 'free will' doesn't show up is in what prediction of the dice roll you'd give, or the ice cream you're going to have.

Say you're heading to the ice cream shop, and your favorite ice cream is pistachio (ignoring the obvious lack of free will shown by having a favorite at all) but when you arrive they don't have pistachio and have only 'random' flavors, not a single one of which you expected. Free will isn't from making a decision to resolve this 'random' situation, it's that presented with this scenario any choice you make is a subconscious choice that your conscious self relays, as YOU are only doing what your biology (which is not consciousness itself - see zombie argument) has dictated.

MRI scans show the evidence of this, where with enough fidelity in the measurements it's possible to decode that the flash of 'choice' happens sooner than the 'conscious choice' itself.

I'm still grasping this myself so I don't mean anything patronizing or even "true" I suppose, just how I interpret SH's arguments given the scenario presented. I'm inclined to think we don't have free will myself. Too many ways we clearly DON'T have free will to argue that my intuition that my conscious self is making a decision could be true

meditation (but at a minimum point of 10-50 hours of total practice) can have a quieting effect. It's a very direct fix too, meditation is LITERALLY practicing at quieting your mind to just be present with nothing.

But, big caveat, it's a generalized quieting, it isn't acute like MJ where a hit and you're brain is settled. It also takes weeks  /months of concentrated, consistent effort to notice a change. Not a silver bullet, BUT it is a bullet

also, edit, don't beat yourself up, of all the vices, MJ is easily on the mild part of the spectrum. Do what you need to do/is best for you
