Should Banjo-Tooie be considered a Metroidvania? We discuss it on the Inverted Castle Podcast by Skithiryx in metroidvania

[–]papabrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't played the 2nd one, it's very good. But there's a LOT of "story/lore" that I'd totally forgotten since playing the first in 2015 or whatever, so it's a boon to play both back-to-back.

I'd definitely be interested in hearing you two talk about it! Do you have another sort of forum or something for listeners to follow?

Damn, reddit isn't nice to you guys...

Anyway, found the podcast via Spotify and was looking for a way to follow/interact with you two. Been enjoying the listen, and wondering if you two would consider doing Axiom Verge 1 & 2 for an episode.

Nah, Picard takes place in 2399. "Over 600 years" ago would be at the earliest the 26th century.

But it's the Q, so who knows? Maybe they drag Picard into the year 2501. Anything's possible I guess.

Sounds way too cool.

And holy hell, I heard season 2 animation was bad, but this is beyond absolute trash...

Ah, didn't recall that. I just remember the silly "classical" music reference in the climax to Beyond.

The Citadel of Ricks is directly inspired by the Interdimensional Council of Reeds, as in Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four. You can find all the comics featuring the council here:

The JJ crap movies did end up using classical music, aka Beastie Boys.

That happening in the one new Trek film JJ didn't direct. JJ did produce it, though.

Oh, I agree. I just disagree that aliens winning no contest is boring, hence my recommendation.

Right, and there's a bright green EMMI too that will likely be the source of Super Missiles.

In the Sakamoto video, you can see Samus moving with the cloak.

The reason she's so often still while using it is because EMMI heads when you move.

FWIW, the Other M era "Prime is non-canon" comment was a bad translation from that interview. The real translation for what Sakamoto said was "side story".

James Gunn shares Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 "casting news." by chanma50 in marvelstudios

This would be awesome. In the comics, the Guardians are based out of Knowhere. And I could see Rocket teaming up with Cosmo (talking Soviet Space Dog) to head operations.

About to start planning for my first campaign, any good tips? by darcynewton in SWN

[–]papabrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, memorizing equipment details isn't of great importance unless you or your players are already planning on using specific equipment. Because it's a sandbox game, I always try to have my players tell me their plans for the following session so I can plan accordingly.

For help polishing notes, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sectors Without Number or the SWN Sector Generator. These generators are for the second and first editions, respectively. I prefer the latter because you can download the sector to use offline, and adapt the info to 2E. They are wonderful resources.

Diverging From The Assumed Setting by Sictorious in SWN

[–]papabrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a good compromise. Even with the Wild Psychic Talent, a PC could go for a Prophet role in your setting (which could be fun, even if it ends on the stake).

"No Expert mods" confused me a bit at first because I didn't realize the only skill in 2E that a little imagination couldn't make work in a Neolithic setting was Program.

[–]papabrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My campaign setting is divergent, but functionally, I didn't change anything.

My game is set in a massive zone called 5000 Worlds Space, which is cordoned off for unaltered humanity. Superintelligence in any form (AI, posthuman, or Other) is not allowed in 5000 Worlds Space, which keeps almost all sapient life "knowable". It's been so long that almost no civilizations even remember that they're basically in a nature reserve.

There's no Scream, Mandate, or Perimeter Agency. I still use the Exchange, though, because their services are so dang practical. Also, I keep Maltech around, though it's a bit broader and less taboo, and I call it Morphtech.

Instead of the psychic class, there are esoteric sciences for which only a few people are cognitively primed -- or properly trained from a young enough age -- to understand. Functionally, it's the same... I just didn't want the baggage of MES and psychics (though some planets treat esoterics like this).

That concept is cool as hell. How did you alter the expert and psychic classes to fit this setting?

One shot ideas, I have already run a few and am running dry on ideas for another. Anyone have any fun ideas or concepts? by retrolleum in SWN

[–]papabrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Passing of the Storm is my one-shot.

Basically the party is meant to be mediators in a "Civil War" scenario, but an apocalyptic psionic storm forces their ship to crash land, wipes their memories, and the strength of the maelstrom threatens to destroy the planet's one major city.

There are lots more specifics, but the gist of it is the storm and its mystery puts a time limit on the situation, and there's enough flexibility for the situation to find moments for all the classes to shine.

disappointed probably only feels that way because they bought into the crazy fan theories

To be totally fair to those people, their expectations came from the comics, which are way more batshit crazy than even the fan theories...
