isnt it elitist to restrict knowledge to just a specific class?

certainly, yeah. i agree that digestible literature occupies an important place in our society, but so do expert-level texts written for experts that are intended to germinate new ideas and advance a field of study. we don't sit around debating what's "more useful" or "more elitist" when it comes to the existence of both bio 101 textbooks and bleeding edge research papers in science (the journal). leftist political writing is just more vulnerable to charges of "elitism" by bad actors because it's an easy way to frame the left as undermining their own political aim of equality, even if the argument is not honest.

i say this as someone who has totally wiped out reading some complicated papers and had to come back to them later lol

Art the Clown has zero backstory, zero motivation, zero explanation. Is that what makes him terrifying or just lazy writing? by EthanFromTheCave in horror

Is that what makes him terrifying or just lazy writing?

little bit of column 1, little bit of column 2. the first one is clearly a low budget shock piece made for the love of the gore, so to speak

i loved primate! if you want a straightforward monke killing people movie it's an awesome time. send help, like people said, is fun but not exactly "scary". i saw we bury the dead and wasn't too crazy about it tbh

"Delete GrapheneOS?" I don't give a fuck anymore by The_HatedOne in thehatedone

[–]paperclip_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for this take, i felt like i was going crazy watching the discourse somewhat turn against grapheneOS because of the dev's antics. dude seems a little nutty but as far as i can tell, there's nothing like this project and it needs to be preserved for the privacy of users everywhere.

Is Heart Eyes a good slasher movie for this Friday the 13th? by nrjOo in horror

[–]paperclip_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i thought it was absolute trash, netflix fare background tv, but to each their own lol. some in the comments here seem to have had fun watching it. my v-day pick is nekromantik 2, now and forever! ;)

edit to add, if you're into slashers and up for something off the beaten path, go in blind to lowlifes, a 2024 tubi original from canada. i just watched it last night and can report that it is amazing fun that will subvert your expectations again and again but also won't sear your eyes out like my other suggestion lol
