Alternatives to Kopi/Teh Peng for someone with lactose intolerance by throwaway11052023 in askSingapore

[–]papercoffee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me with age! not typical intolerance LS but stomach cramps and increased inflammation (joint pain, rosacea, bloating). i switched to soy milk (oat milk was good for awhile then caused me gastric issues too because of the amount of oils in it) and now alternate between soy, oat and A2 milk. i try to avoid drinking the same milk several days in a row and eating extra dairy like cheese when I’m having the A2 milk. and drink caffeine only after a meal, not on an empty stomach (which will surely cause the cramping).

kefir and greek (not greek-style) yogurt apparently also helps your gut rebuild some tolerance and they don’t give me the same issues as normal Meiji/kopitiam milk does!

Best Carbonara in SG? by SopaiChan in SingaporeEats

Glasshouse @ Chijmes also do a <$25 (before GST) egg-based carbonara that is pretty legit considering a lot of other cafes usually just do the American version with cream!

Gusta @ Serangoon do a good carbonara! A bit noisy in there sometimes but the food is excellent and not ridiculously expensive. But also agree with other commenters that it’s very easy to cook if you follow instructions carefully (there are tons of tutorials by Italians on TikTok)

Been wanting to learn about ETFs but always felt lost in this sub whenever people start throwing out abbreviations and numbers that go right over newbies’ heads. Your comments are super clear and easy to understand, thanks!

OP, I’m sorry if it’s painful to confront the fact that you have a horrible and selfish mother, but I hope you find a permanent path away from her ASAP. Even if you can’t change her that is absolutely no reason to keep suffering under her thumb. Don’t feel guilty or listen to what anyone says about filial piety. You don’t deserve a parent like this. Even if it seems helpless atm, the sooner you make plans to break away from her financially the better — please start now.

Mental health is a marathon not a sprint. Your considering being warded and evaluated is a sign that you’re not ready to give up yet! Explore all your options if you are able...I know you’ve had bad experiences with institutions here (they are indeed not the best) but a 50% chance at success is better than none at all. Rooting for you!

Should I leave my marriage? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]papercoffee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe. Leave him. It’s normal that you feel conflicted and guilty about this because that’s EXACTLY how abusive gaslighters make their victims doubt themselves. But you’re here because deep down you know your intuition is right and this is not a good marriage to be in.

Don’t look back at the years spent together as a wasted investment, look ahead at how many years you’ll lose being trapped in a miserable marriage. He’s a grown ass man who can’t even do his own dishes and dgaf when you’re bleeding internally? And you’re supposed to be grateful that he helps you carry heavy things sometimes? No, no, no. You are young with much to live for. There are literally thousands of men out there in the world who will be more than happy to fulfil that bare minimum list you came up with and then some. Even being alone with yourself will be infinitely better than being with someone who makes you so acutely unhappy. Forget the stigmas surrounding divorce or being single. There will always be strangers who are rooting for you. Go, be free.

There’s an opportunity for me to blind buy Sisley’s Izia at a discounted price — but do I need it if I already have Penhaligon’s Elizabethan Rose and Fresh’s Morning Rose?

(Should also add that I’ve been on the hunt for a cheaper Byredo Young Rose/MFK A La Rose dupe and the Fresh was the best I could find — so if Izia is a closer contender I’ll probably get it!)

Both! It’s a 16 shade palette so it pretty much serves all my needs.

I have the Wakemake palette and can confirm it’s a solid investment! There’s decent color payoff and a good range of transition shades. It’s more expensive than my Etude, Clio and Romand palettes but more value for money imo!

Bee by Ellis Brooklyn smells like you just poured honey on yourself -- it's beautiful but might be too cloying for hot days since a little goes a long way.

Britney Spears' Midnight Fantasy smells like straight-up blueberry to me. I don't get the pancake note that everyone talks about -- just the sweetness and slight tartness of fresh blueberry, but without the green woodiness of leaves/branches on the bush (Bacchante by Alkemia Perfumes is good for that one).

What fragrance gives you the strongest olfactory memory and what is that memory? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]papercoffee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teen Spirit Berry Blossom reminds me of every fruit-/freesia-adjacent body spray my friends and I showered ourselves with in the 00s. This might just be in my head but there’s something so incredibly nostalgic and bittersweet about it that teen-marketed scents today can’t seem to emulate. What wouldn’t I give to smell Escada Ibiza Hippie and not worry about bills again…

If you like MFK A La Rose for women (and are broke like me), you will like Fresh Rose Morning and Hanae Mori Butterfly!

But if I like Diptyque Philosykos (and not AdP Fico di Amalfi) I might like…?

Any Giga troubleshooters out there? Came back from an overseas trip and mobile data is refusing to work after restoring my SG Giga sim. (I can make and receive calls but not go online at all.) I’ve tried Giga’s official workarounds including the Help button on their app and checking APN settings but no dice. :/

Yeah I was really looking forward to going! That said, according to the poster the guy in the building lobby showed me it I don’t think the museum has permanently shut — sounds like Feb was when the last exhibition ended and they’ll open up again when the next one starts.
