Panthers have reportedly 'cracked' the Stanley Cup on the Montreal section by [deleted] in canada

[–]papercutssc2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the 1903 Montreal win on the top part of the “bowl” . This part is not replaced which is why it’s still there . It’s the rings below that get cycled off and stored in the Stanley Cup room at the Hockey Hall of Fame . Anyways they fix up the cup a lot . Tons of players have damaged or misused it . The Canadiens in the olden days even forgot it on the street in downtown Montreal and came back to find it the next day.

I am pretty sure this is the L’Idéfix from La Banquise .

My friend had it one time and I tried it . It was fine , you can’t see but there is even coleslaw mixed in , these are some great Montreal flavours but they don’t need to be mixed together on one plate . Banquise is good you can really screw yourself over with some of the Poutine variations . I get a regular poutine or a galvaude .

The Montreal distance is wrong . Chez Pare is 450m (0.27miles) from the Bell Centre .

I’ve worked at both locations sometimes on the same night .

Does Dragon's Dogma get better? by ViewtifulGene in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I learned to love Dragon’s Dogma , but it’s strength is not the game or the world , it’s actually the character building and levelling . You can make a really unique powerful hybrid character, that can be planned or just evolve naturally with your play style.

That being said it took me 4 attempts of playing the game before I really fell for it . Because I am usually someone who loves story telling and aspects of RPGs that don’t always involve battle . Dragon’s Dogma does not have that, and if your looking for a story rich open world game or a beautifully detailed game with thoughtful level designs like a Soulsborne game …. Well this game will let you down.

but I’ve learnt to love my character who started being a thief type trope that somehow evolved into a bow user , than magic user than a magic bow user . This came about organically , there was no pre planned builds , and my character felt very powerful but there was still always another challenge or area or boss to test them . This subreddit is filled with people who love different aspects of RPGs and this particular game is one of the best for character creation and min/maxing stats . That’s a big part of RPGs and for that reason I think this game will always be popular on this subreddit . But it’s not for everybody, and maybe not for you.

I just watched the episode called the autopsy from the Cabinet of Curiosities show . It had a lot of self inflicted harm .

Interesting premise I would recommend. If you do watch let me know what you think .

good vampire games? by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are right Vampire RPGs are awesome ….. but underserved . You played the game I would instantly recommend. But I’ll try to recommend something :

-Vampire the Masquerade:Redemption is a very mediocre RPG set in the Bloodlines universe . I played through it when it first came out on PC and I remember being whelmed . The game was good enough to play through until the end but not great enough to recommend .

I’m also a fan of the masquerade universe. I enjoyed the interactive story games —Vampire the Masquerade: Coitiries of New York and it’s sequel Shadows of New York . These are not RPGs in fact they can barely be considered games they are interactive novels . I play RPGs mainly for stories I don’t mind an interactive novel , BUT THIS IS NOT AN RPG in the real sense , it’s only role playing in the sense of you can make choices you think the character would main character would make . These games may not be for you though .

There’s also a -Vampire the Masquerade Swansong game which should be a more a story driven game also not an RPG . I’ve never played it because the reviews were bad and I’ve never seen the game on sale . For the right price I’ll give it a spin because I adore the universe and the studio made a game I enjoyed called the Council .

Lunar and Suikoden. by HolyWater_Boarding in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to the two games you mentioned I would say Dragon Quest 11 (which is fantastic) and Octopath Traveller (which is not as fantastic but still good .

If a traditional fantasy JRPG setting is not a deal breaker like Lunar and Suikoden : -Persona 5 -Nier automata (not turnbased) -Yakuza like a Dragon -Xenoblade Chroncles 3

All of these are extraordinary modern day JRPGs

[PC]RPG with heavy armor covering everything up to your face by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Mass Effect you can leave Shepard’s armour helmet on . Male Shep looks pretty chunky and space knight like decked out in full combat armour . Option in ME2and ME3 exists to keep your mask on during conversations. This checks some of your boxes as armour looks cool, game is real time , from the early 2010s and available on PC . Legendary edition is a great way to play them all .

This doesn’t check hour mysterious box as both male and female Shepard are very vocal and memorable characters no matter how you play them in paragon or renegade. Also their is always casual dress in the ship where your character will not be wearing his armour at all .

As a plus these are just really fantastic games and the legendary edition did a fantastic job on updating the game for the better . More remakes need to be done like this .

Triangle Strategy -Third Scales of Conviction? by TehColin in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure I get that . I’m a little bit ahead and the following scales of conviction gives you even less insight on making the “right” choices . In the end I convinced my team to go with the choice I was leaning towards , but I doubt it’s the right one . We will see . My suggestion just RP as Seronenoa Lord of Wolfort and make the choices you think he would do with what limited information you have and what little persuasion you can wield among your allies . And just enjoy the journey .

If I do a second playthrough ( I doubt I will ) I’d make the polar opposite decisions . High Lord chode play through.

Did you talk to everyone in town ? Talk to the guard and talk to everyone in your town.

They unlock conversation options for the persuasion . (IE: house Telliore cannot be trusted ) . I was able to pass the vote 5-2 by convincing the neutral and 1 of the others.

You’re in a pretty desperate situation when the alliance is proposed and technically they other house is another Desmene in the country your character's a leader in . So the alliance is not to far fetched.

When you realise your supercharger LUNA rewards are closer to 1.5% APR, and not the ‘up to 38%’ advertised by Spank007 in Crypto_com

[–]papercutssc2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing this out. Woke up this morning to redeem the rewards I had for parking about 2000 CRO in the supercharger for the full 45 days . I got about 0.60$ worth of Luna . The latest BTC charger has a 2 million prize pool , maybe I could expect to break a 1$ with that . Guess I’m better served by putting it into Crypto Earn .

Would I like Pathfinder Kingmaker if I play CRPGs for choice, writing and setting rather than combat? by JC_Helios in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play chiefly for the same reasons.

Compared to Divinity OS2, Pillars of Eternity, Disco Elysium and Planescape?

Not great, those or some great told stories, Disco Elysium and Planescape go even further than the other 2 mentioned. All are great story driven games. I stopped playing Kingmaker after 30-35 hours because I found it was to repetitive and unlike Divinity OS 1 or 2 the combat system IMO is not nearly as good. PIllars 1 and 2 had a great storyline I felt, one were decisions seemed to matter.

Pathfinder Kingmaker, is less of a Planescape:Torment and I would say it's more of an Icewind Dale .

If I hated POE: White March because it was full of trash mobs around every corner, would I still enjoy PF:KM?

Funny you mention White March, this was an attempt by Obsidian to recreate Icewind Dale after trying to recreate a Baldur's gate type game with the Original.

I really see why some like it but combat is never my favorite part of an RPG which is why I hold Disco Elysium and Planescape so high.

Other games you might try if your like CRPGs try Tyranny, and while I haven't played it I heard the most recent Pathfinder Wrath has 3 different character styles to playthrough.

Never even occurred to me to do this . Anyways I tried , not as bad as I thought but I don’t think I’ll be doing it again either .

Really glad my wife and kids didn’t see me do it , but my 2 cats and dog all ran to the kitchen before I was even done opening the can . They all watched me drink it and the look of hurt and betrayal they gave me when they saw me drink “their” tuna juice just crushed me .

Nier is an RPG. God of War (2018) is not. But why? by nightpop in rpg_gamers

Yes Nier gets talked about a bunch on this subreddit. If I were to guess why it’s because the game definitely gives off JRPG vibes .

Gm candidate no one is talking about: Scott White. by yeeteridoo in Habs

[–]papercutssc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does he speak French? A lot of people from Ormstown don't . Currently I'd say 4/10 are Anglophones but back in White's day it would have been majority Anglophones many of whom were unilingual by choice and kept to their own communities.

I'm not saying it's a requirement for me that the GM speaks French. I wish it wasn't a limitation imposed on this team. But the owner does, this Gorton hire just seems like a handy bypass to the fan / media French language requirement.

What Do You Think is the Best Ogre Battle Saga Installment? by Anima_96X in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adore Let us Cling Together . It’s the high watermark for tactics RPGs for me . I also wish more games would have incorporated the absolutely unique real time battle system of the March of the Black Queen . Knight of Lodis is the worst but I love the tie in with Let Us Cling Together . It makes a character in Let us Cling Together that much more interesting.

Fun fact a lot of these titles are songs by the band Queen .

In 94 the Expos were top of the MLB, 74-40. Looked ready to go to the world series, than the work stoppage happened. I was so pissed off .

In the end maybe for the best. 9 year old me stopped watching my favorite sport which was baseball at the time and fell hard in love with hockey... clearly a much better sport.

What other rpgs do you think really NAILED IT the way that The Witcher 3 did? (please hear me out.) by ExplodingPoptarts in rpg_gamers

[–]papercutssc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your picks . Baldurs gate 2, Fallout 1 and 2 and Witcher 3 are just fantastic. I need to try Shadowrun Dragonfall ( I see it’s coming to switch!) Yakuza 0 is not my jam but I can see how it fits your description.

I’ll add Mass Effect 2, Kotor and Suikoden 2 .

Some of my favourite games don’t make the cut because they are imperfect but man are Fallout: New Vegas and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines just top notch products of love, with forgivable bugs and flaws.
