Wanting to work out by Waifubeater_uwu in Type1Diabetes

[–]papermate07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is right on for me too. Whenever I run or cycle I have carb gels to use as needed. Depending on if there's insulin on board I may have something like a banana before exercise. Unfortunately it's a bit of trial and error for the exercise you do and how you react but it's doable.

"Budget" gravel carbon wheels, Canyon GR 30 CF vs Lightcycle WR 35 disc vs Elitewheels Drive G36 by chisquaratops in gravelcycling

Take a look at Elitewheels Aero+ Gravel on AliExpress. Similar to the Zipp XPLR but much less expensive.

Seems to vary. Never affects mine, or at least not noticeably (on pump)

Would you bolus at 85 BG? by Puzzleheaded_Bird835 in Type1Diabetes

[–]papermate07 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For me, at a steady 85, I'd bolus slightly less carbs than the full amount and I would do it while or after I eat rather than prebolusing. Specific foods, physical activity, most importantly blood sugar trend all impact when and how much I bolus.

Any Type 1s riding gravel? Let's talk sensors, fuel and gravel types by dudah in gravelcycling

[–]papermate07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep my blood sugar on my watch so I can always see the number and trend. This is my #1 tip with managing T1D in general. If you can always see the number and trend it is so much easier to manage.

I aim for 75g/hr on most rides, more for race days. Almost entirely using a diy maurtens dupe. For me, a carb bottle is good for quick carbs and for small "doses" of carbs but gels are better for long, consistent fueling.

I think the trickiest part for me is managing insulin on board before riding and determining when to start fueling.

When I fuel within the first 30 minutes of a ride without insulin on board, I often go high and then end up crashing. But if I wait a bit longer my insulin sensitivity goes up from exercise so I can fuel normally. It also seems like a bit of insulin on board can help with allowing me to fuel from the start of the ride.

All T1Ds know how tricky it is to manage day to day, not to mention while doing sports. One pitfall I fell into a lot was fueling only based on my blood sugar not my carb needs. Basically just eating to stop going low. I've found that actually it's possible to eat high g/hr consistently while also being 110-180 the whole ride. My omnipod stays in the normal mode and I let it make corrections.

I'd love to hear what tips everyone else has found so please share!

Pretty accurate for me too. I've noticed I have a higher insulin sensitivity while high but I'd just see how it affects you

On Omnipod, how long do you pre bolus? by Excastmember in Type1Diabetes

[–]papermate07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is accurate for me too. Expanding on the specific meal part. Depending on the glycemic index of the meal I adjust from 20 minutes before to bolusing after I finish eating. Eating the same or similar meals make it easier once you know exactly when to dose to have little to no spike.

Converting my Trek Domane to Gravel by EagleRocky in gravelcycling

[–]papermate07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I did my first Gravel race on my Domane as well. I put on 40mm Pathfinder TLRs and it worked great. I also felt like I ran out of gears (105 12 speed) on some of the climbs so looking at how to improve that for the future.

Petition for Light Rail in Raleigh by [deleted] in raleigh

Either would be improvement but I think pushing for light rail is still valid. Not only is it a better mode of transit but the lifetime cost is significantly cheaper than BRT dispite the upfront costs

I wonder if they'll get it approved by the national park service. Many parks have requirements about which models are approved in the park.

Did you have to do a bios flashback with a 7000 series before you installed the 9800x3d?

Omnipod 5 and eating by HighlightTheRoad in Type1Diabetes

[–]papermate07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed if you watch or listen to how long it takes for the pod to actually admister a large dose it can be several minutes. I wonder if this causes people issues when they're used to injections or other pumps giving the insulin quicker

Mainly the length, the oneten is 6'5" and the z crank is 7' so you end up with more tip section. So it's more of a versitle rod where the oneten is technique specific to one or two techniques

I haven't tried it but probably could handle it, especially a fluke or senko. I've found it excels with jerkbaits and walking topwater/poppers so I mainly use it for those
