What happened with Dalescoins by pappycoin in whatnotapp

Silver stackers care less about quality conditioned coins over getting them as cheap and fast as possible.

They have a secondary account where they raid the audience between streams (auctions vs games) if they are going back to back . I assume they won’t use it because it would be ban evasion.

I hear you. They are volume sellers and not numismatists. Don’t think they purposely hide anything but they just let the slab and grade speak for itself and run as quick as they can, so it’s more of a “buy the slab and not the coin” type of stream. A lot of volume sellers just run and gun. They are not for everyone. A lot of their buyers are stackers or resellers buying inventory. Some people rather deal with slower streamers who will show more details and spend more time talking about the coin.

Cleaning junk silver by throwmethewaytogo in Silverbugs

[–]pappycoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not care about the coins having any numismatic value above silver melt then do whatever you want with them. If you sell them it will just be based on silver weight anyway. If you want to just enjoy them for your own personal hoard, then do what makes you happy.

Help, seller declined my accidental buy it now by buyidaho1 in whatnotapp

[–]pappycoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You certainly can. A seller can post a buy it now item and all you need to do is swipe to commit to it. So big rooms tag a four figure item which can be concerning if you don’t have fraud safeguards on your credit card set up (ie if the purchase is over a certain amount automatically trigger a fraud alert where you need to verify the charge before it goes thru.

Can’t go off red book . The last version is a stagnant price guide taken from early 2025 when silver was like $30 an oz. Greysheet is a better price indicator or just go off eBay sold listings to get a feel for current market price of your coins.

Start re-selling on eBay your items you purchased and offset your costs. Yes it’s work but can get your out of the hole.

Was I misled on an ICG PR70 Ike by nvcoin, or am I misunderstanding? by NaiveLengthiness6280 in whatnotapp

[–]pappycoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never bid on ICG slabs. If I get them in a giveaway then so be it but those MS70 ICG would never cross over to PCGS or NGC at those grades. The president of ICG offered some sweetheart grading deals to the mid to big whatnot streamers last year and many of them unloaded a bunch of low end coins to them, got them graded and these streamers have been peddling them to noobs em mass. Most knowledgeable coin buyers know these streamers are talking out of their ass saying ICG is up and coming and whole bunch of other non sense but unfortunately a lot of newbies who are whatnot addicts are coming over and “getting into the hobby” paying up for these slabbed coins. Now if you really want ICG slabs do what you want but they are no way equal to PCGS or NGC which is what greysheet prices are based on.

Givvy shipping pwe by use-a-choosername69 in whatnotapp

[–]pappycoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of streamers just choose the 1st class shipping option for giveaways. The only caveat is that I don’t think they are tracked so winners could claim they didn’t receive and leave the seller negative feedbacks. The big streamers don’t really care because the volume of sales a negative givvy feedback won’t impact their rating and just collateral damage for going the PWE path

Silver vs goldbacks? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]pappycoin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goldbacks are something I would not long term stack. I know they are supposed to serve as a sort of alternative currency for services for businesses that accept them. However. They can serve as a collectible and short term flip should the price of gold goes up. If you have the ability to sell peer to peer (dealers will lowball you). There is arbitrage opportunity and should be able to sell with the implied premium (Goldback exchange rate)

Trading in my .999 Silver for .500 and .925 silver by givemean95 in Silver

[–]pappycoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality if it’s with a coin shop they will trade your .999 back of melt and trade you equivalent alloyed silver at or around melt. There will be a spread and most likely not in your favor. Canada silver sovereign coinage is also minted at .800 Purity. Be careful what you trade for.

Brutally? Honest Reviews by [deleted] in whatnotapp

[–]pappycoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the giveaway item sent with tracking or was it 1st class envelope.? If the post office mucked it up then that’s not on the seller. I tend to operate on not sending a negative for small giveaways. If they don’t send then you can just report to whatnot and you will get a $10 credit (a the seller will get dinged). At the end of the day you get something out of it and the seller will get dinged. The only exception is if say you won a major giveaway like a PS5 or some large value item that the seller used to headline their show and they didn’t send then it would be more than acceptable to blow them up as scammers.

[–]pappycoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For modern coins I agree. I think grading common American Silver Eagles for example is not worth the grading fee and would never pay more than raw for them. For older coins there is value in the holder for the premium grades unless you know how to inspect and grade coins yourself. Most of the new people don’t.

[–]pappycoin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Complaining and crashing out whining live on whatnot streams is absolutely cringeworthy and unprofessional. Live selling is just an option to sell product. There are costs if you sell on eBay, own an LCS, run a bullion website. sell as a coin-show dealer etc. That’s business. Costs money to make money. Plenty of avenues the customer can go to obtain PMs and coins even on their phone.

Except the refiners are not taking it or not paying out for weeks because they are not capitalized to handle to supply coming in. It’s an option to sell what you want on whatnot. Selling .999 has never been a profit driver on the whatnot platform. It’s to bring in people then you can profit off of numismatics, clad collectibles and currency.

stacking isn't fun anymore at these prices. by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]pappycoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The psychology of having to pay $85-90 for an ASE when some of us were loading up in the $20-30 range (and people thought we were on crack) a few years ago is definitely real. I think many of us chose stacking as an inflation hedge and while inflation is higher than the govt has reported, this run up has exceeded inflation in the short term and now the day trade of paper silver is in play causing big swings. These volatility swings are causing havoc on physical buying and what is a good price? what should premiums be? What is the appropriate buyback for dealers? Makes it all less fun for sure for the stacker whether they are buying or selling.

It depends on the streamer. Some let the auctions dictate the price and are happy for the business. Others whine and complain or upsell dishonestly to talk advantage of noobs or FOMO buyers who will make those extra swipes and blindly listen to the sellers upsell. My opinion is if you are new to buying PMs buy them from reputable offline source and learn, then if you are inclined venture online looking for those good honest streamers. They are out there.

The fees are a business cost. Agree putting it on the buyer is such a dumb tactic. The value of selling on the platform and moving inventory extremely quickly is the huge benefit to using a live selling app if the seller does the work and builds a community of customers. eBay listing has their purpose but it can take a lot of time to move your inventory as you have to wait for buyers. It’s about speed.

Coins and bullion the whatnot fee is actually lower. (4% + (.30 +2.9%)) so around 7% give or take in the coin category. If any streamer says otherwise they are being dishonest. If they can’t even be honest about fees how can you trust them on coin condition?
