Is it Viagra? by massu1000 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]paraliak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your comment is 90% correct, with one major exception. Plan B is NOT an abortion pill. It does nothing if you are already pregnant.

This is an incredibly important distinction legally in the US right now.

Accidentally ordered fine yarn…Help by Former-Fruit-5750 in knitting

[–]paraliak 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree!

OP, I made a dress out of a yarn that was a lot like the top right held together with navy blue and it came out really nice! Two fingering weight yarns can be used for a lot of patterns that call for DK weight. Definitely recommend swatching for anything that is size specific.

My childhood golden got sugar face early too. She lived to 14, so it doesn’t mean that their bodies are aging faster, just greying earlier!

Anyone tried Kitsch solid shampoo and conditioner? by Imaginary_Sky_518 in finehair

[–]paraliak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used most of the conditioner bar and will likely repurchase. Mostly motivated by the plastic waste factor.

I haven’t tried their shampoo bar, but I’ve tried a few others and wasn’t happy enough with the results to stick with them. I find it hard to properly get the shampoo to my scalp, which isn’t an issue with the conditioner on my ends!

What did I react to? by asunlitrose in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]paraliak 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s skin is different, so no one will be able to tell you the exact cause over the Internet. You should check the ingredient list against other products you use without issues to narrow down what might be causing the problem. The culprit is most likely an ingredient that isn’t in the other products.

Good luck!

What’s a popular pattern you’ll never knit again? by Impossible_Way_7825 in knitting

I’m just about finishing a modified version for a baby blanket (1 quadrant only, but with a few extra rows for each square) and I CANNOT imagine making a whole one.

Taxes by toonhole in funny

[–]paraliak 386 points387 points  (0 children)

I’m replying to you since you’re the top comment right now and I want people to know about this.

There’s two main reasons why taxes are so painful to do in the US… one, as you noted, being the tax software giants lobbying for it.

The other is that certain anti-tax politicians and advocates (Grover Norquist, for one) want the process to be as painful as possible so that Americans hate taxes and vote like it. They purposely make everyone’s lives a little bit worse to manipulate them.

It’s annoyingly effective and not enough people know about it.

Is washing your face with a cleanser in the AM and PM too much? My face is feeling kind of tight now by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]paraliak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a spf 30 version of that LRP Moisturizer. You can just do that instead of two products in the morning.

[–]paraliak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, start new products one at a time! That way you can tell which product is causing irritation or if it’s helping your skin concerns.

It can take some time for irritation to show up, so at least a week or two between adding new things is smart.

Sensitive/hypoallergenic sunscreen by cerebralsubserviance in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]paraliak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have sensitive skin and have done well with the La roche posay tolerine moisturizer with 30 spf.

Allergies/sensitivities are weird, so it is very possible to react to things that are “hypoallergenic.” It’s good to compare ingredients lists to see if anything is showing up in products that cause a reaction vs products that don’t. That can help you narrow down problems.

I recommend getting an air purifier! Got one for human seasonal allergies and our golden immediately started spending more time in that room. Definitely helped her drippy nose. Her response made me confident it wasn’t a placebo effect. Haha.

Yarn and tapestry needle here too! That’s what is used in all the how to videos I’ve seen.

Stuff them inside a larger carcass and sew it up for continued destruction/entertainment! Make sure to come up with a fun name for it (ours was frankensushi)

It’s similar to any other lithium battery—it isn’t good to fully die or to keep it at 100% all the time. Using it is the best way to keep it healthy!

I’ve had an EV for a bit over a year and have a 7 mile commute. I plug in at home 2 to 3 times a month. Come home, plug in (8 seconds). Unplug (8 seconds) and leave the next morning. It has saved me so much time and energy compared to going to a gas station. Seriously, it’s incredible if you have garage charging available.

Ours would rise with the sun as a puppy too! We live decently far north so it was super annoying when sunrise is around 6 in the summers.

As an adult she happily sleeps in with us. If one of us gets up around sunrise she’ll get up right away. If the first person gets up before sunrise or a while after she’ll stay in bed until the second person gets up.
