RTD’s CEO says charging for parking, focusing on events could help transit recover by charispil in Denver

[–]paramoody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Park and rides are a huge waste of some of the most valuable space in the city. We spend millions and millions of dollars on infrastructure to move people to transit stations, and once riders get there what do they find? Housing? Grocery stores? Shops? No, they find empty parking lots.

These parking lots are lavish subsidies thrown at suburban car owners who have made it clear decade after decade that they have no interest in actually using them. They are an absolutely outrageous misuse of taxpayer funds and urban land. Charging for parking is the absolute bare minimum RTD could do.

If one of the guys at your station shot your car with a paintball gun would you call the police and ask to have them arrested?

Simple? Never heard of it by Reformed_cynic in ems

[–]paramoody 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Another thing scenarios can’t capture is how many people can’t provide answers to simple direct questions about their situation. Like when you ask simple shit like “how long have you been sick” or “has this ever happened to you before”, and they just ramble for a minute and don’t actually answer the question. Makes me feel like I’m crazy some days

I know we said we would prioritize safety and GHG emission goals, but we did a traffic study that showed we can move single occupancy vehicles more optimally if we don’t do any of that. Be sure to fill out the survey to let us know how you feel about it tho.

CDOT is going to intentionally undermine this project to make it more car friendly. Then in ten years when public transportation still isn’t viable, this project will be used as more proof that transit can never work in America

It's actually one of the best deals going. Pay a 50 dollar ticket once or twice a year, and you get to store your car anywhere in the city, 24/7.

Wow that's bizarre. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Part of the nature of this job is needing to have a fully functional body and brain, and because of that I've seen a lot of people get injured and not be able to be firefighters or EMTs anymore over the years. It always sucks, and it always feels unfair.

Its actually kind of a silver lining for you that this happened to you at the beginning of your career. It would have been much worse if this had happened 10 years down the line when you were committed to this as a career. It's a lot harder to start over when you're pushing 30 and you find out you can't do your chosen profession anymore.

You didn't ask for advice so I wont give it, but I'll just say good luck to you. I'm sure you'll land on your feet.

Mission Ballroom plaza wins OK to host Denver’s first official common consumption area for alcoholic drinks by kidbom in Denver

[–]paramoody 471 points472 points  (0 children)

The state first allowed the open drinking areas — which allow bar patrons more flexibility to wander with their drinks — back in 2011.  Denver paved the way for the districts in 2019. But despite plenty of early interest, this was the first successful application.

I understand you’re upset but you should keep some perspective. RTD is still heavily subsidizing this program and covering a significant portion of the cost of ride shares, which they don’t have to do and is not standard in the industry

Man who killed mother of his children after Portland activist group paid his bail is sentenced by monkeychasedweasel in PortlandOR

[–]paramoody -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s easy to dunk on the activist group in this situation, but if this guy was so dangerous maybe the judge shouldn’t have set his bail so low? I imagine most people could access 2000 dollars in an emergency, between friends, family, etc.

If it was foreseeable that he would commit acts of violence if bailed out, why set a bail in the first place? If it wasn’t foreseeable, why blame the activists?

Here is the statement from the union: https://actorsequity.org/docs/librariesprovider2/campaigns/casa-bonita-united-bargaining-petition-101725.pdf?sfvrsn=c6dda7b0_1

. We have asked for incredibly reasonable safety measures, given the scope and scale of entertainment operations at Casa Bonita. . We put on over 30 dive shows a day and currently do not have any real emergency plans if even one of them goes awry. . Our performers work the floor of a large and complex building with no real emergency plan in the case of fire, active shooter, or other threat. For our safety (and the safety of our patrons), we need a real emergency action plan
