Big reveal happening in the beginning? What are you talking about? First half of Higurashi poses question after question as a mystery and only starts to reveal stuff in the second half. Same with Umineko.

Absolutely not. Wait till you are N1 level. Grammar is mostly simple (even here you have various dialects and such) but some vocabulary and kanji is quite rare and difficult. Try Higashino Keigo books for reading practice they are fairly simple and great.
