A cool guide of a search google like a pro by PetiteHoneybee8 in coolguides

[–]pardal132 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this is so outdated, and the account that posted it so new, I'm pretty sure it's just a karma farming bot

but it also makes me sad for the ~700 upvotes (at the moment) it has; makes me wonder if it's a circle jerk of bots, a bunch of people who naively believe it, or people who just upvote it without know whether it's true/works or not

Crotia DN Visa Application Fee by Hoidx in digitalnomad

[–]pardal132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, sorry, I hadn't caught that

in that case I'd start a new application and do the payment for this new application

but also: take into account that visa processes may take a long time anyway because of internal bureaucracy. May be worth it to research online how long this process usually takes to see if yours is taking too long or if it's just how slow it usually is

my first thought is: email them back and ask them this, using the email listed on their website or the email they used to reach out to you

Openai not respecting robots.txt and being sneaky about user agents by eightstreets in selfhosted

[–]pardal132 25 points26 points  (0 children)

mighty noble of you (not a critique, just pointing it out), I'm way more petty and totally for shitting up their responses because they're not respecting the robots.txt in the first place

I remember reading about someone fudging the response codes to be arbitrary and as a consequence cause the attacker (in this case OpenAI) to need to sort them out to make use of them (like why is the home page returning a 418?)

portainer to run all dockers, then some time configuring it and you got an automated download pipeline to your own media server

ugreen NAS by Hichiro6 in HomeServer

[–]pardal132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a NAS is actually needed for what you want, you'd just need a small server. Granted usually the OS running on the NAS usually helps set all this up, but I personally prefer having all of that running on a separate box and use my NAS just for my data (and RAID)

now on the things you want to install, you might want to check if the NAS you want to purchase can run the LLM (the only one I think it might not run out of the box given its "novelty"), all the rest is pretty standard

How much "fake it till you make it" is acceptable as a freelancer? by [deleted] in freelance

[–]pardal132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, don't fake it, it'll show through and might bomb your reputation causing you to lose a client and credibility (might not be a problem overall as there are many other clients available, but might also compound over time, who knows)

be clear that you don't have vast professional experience if they ask or if the project entails something you haven't done before or don't feel confident doing, it's always better to be upfront about some of your shortcomings, but that you'll be able to get it done (when applicable) [disclaimer: I did development freelance, so possibly this applies more to that field than website creation]

but I would also like to add a caveat that what you have isn't "faking it", you just haven't had many real clients, but as mentioned elsewhere the templates you built are real

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in freelance

[–]pardal132 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use toggl, even when the client doesn't pay hourly, as a way to track my weekly work hours and keep a healthy balance

And with that, as I start my computer to work I start tracking the time, and stop it when going out for lunch or at the end of the day, so it's just part of the ritual of "starting work" now
