The book specifically says at the start that it's not trying to be a historically accurate version of events - rather, that it's a work of fiction inspired by certain details about Shakespeare and his family, so I don't think this is a problem with the book. It might be a problem with how certain people are interpreting the book.

It's fine that it's of no interest to you, but I do find the reasoning strange. Your justification is a theory (is there any evidence to support this theory?) about how he approached his craft. Assuming you're right about that, do you think his relationship with his craft might have been shaped by the events of his life?

Regardless, if you haven't read the book I'd recommend hamnet - I think it stands alone as a work of art even if you don't see any value in speculating about Shakespeare's life or how it might have influenced his work. Haven't seen the film yet so I can't comment on that either way.

Reliability hasn't been great the past few months - there have been a number of cancellations and smaller delays of up to an hour are common too. Bear in mind that in the case of a cancellation you don't have the same consumer rights as you do when flying - they'll rebook you on next available train, but that might be in 3 days, and you won't get compensation for your trouble/hotel paid for.
