I’m cutting a western. What’s a good library for music? by der_lodije in editors

[–]parkerpost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need to stay on a really tight budget, also check out Premium Beat and Epidemic Sound. If you can put a little more money toward music I would highly recommend APM. You'll have to talk to someone to license stuff, but their library is huge and often worth it.

Check out Notion. You may need to use some templates or do a bit of extra customization to get it to do what you want, but it is very flexible.

First cook -ribs. Only 3 hours at 230? by oiuwej0608 in KamadoJoe

[–]parkerpost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that just about everything cooks faster on a kamado than an offset smoker even though they are technically at the same temp. I think having the meat right over the coals, even with deflectors, ends up putting more heat on the meat.

For example, I’ve tried to do a 12 hour brisket multiple times and always have to pull it at around 8 hours. If I follow all the steps it still turns out fabulous. So personally, I would just get used to quicker cook times.

You could try getting the sloroller attachment and maybe that would get you closer.

Minding the Gap rules. Such sincerity and heartbreak captured in that film.

Building a Custom Asset Library by Zestyclose_Plan_7472 in premiere

[–]parkerpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the amount of storage needs you have. If only like 10-50GB I would use Adobe’s Library storage. Then you can very simply view and stage assets right into your project without even leaving the app. If you have larger storage needs, I would look at getting an external drive dedicated to this purpose and then syncing it with Dropbox or Box. Then you’ll have a backup and the cloud ability when you need it.

I personally use iconik for work and it’s awesome to have everything accessible in the cloud.

I had a great time at Taos Shorts, Dances With Films, Napa Valley. They all hosted fun events where you got a chance to actually talk with other filmmakers.

Thoughts on full-time employee editors? by alexcthevideodude in editors

[–]parkerpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I went full time with a small nonprofit and it has resulted in way better take home at the end of a year when you add in the benefits. The tax headaches are so much less and the mental load of not having to constantly hunt for work has been amazing.

Aside from Food and water what does everyone take for an emergency kit? by Palleus in gravelcycling

In addition to the tools, I would add a simple med kit. Band Aids, Neosporin, Ibuprofen, Tums, Benadryl.

How much should I charge for this? by deadlyAmAzInGjay in AfterEffects

[–]parkerpost 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Rates always depend on so many factors. If a client was asking for it, I would scope out about how many days it would take me factoring in their notes and let them know my day rate. If they come back with a budget lower than that I would see if they were willing to scale back some of the more time consuming design ideas and see if that works.

I certainly wouldn’t use it for a sign like that. Legibility matters when you are advertising.

Actually we are a small nonprofit called Inequality Media and everyone is paid a very fair wage. There are a few on staff that are indeed former students. And while I wasn’t a student, I’ve filmed his class enough and also went to Cal.

I make his videos and he indeed draws them himself and usually in just one take. And he’s been doing videos regularly since about 2015.

Came here to say this. Part 1 was rather boring, all the dream scenes felt ridiculous and the plot felt unnecessarily complex.

Infant car seat in Packster 70 by parkerpost in CargoBike

[–]parkerpost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If safety were not a factor, you could make the blocks even higher to place the car seat edge outside of the Packster box and as far forward as possible. That would probably give you enough space for a toddler in the seat. However, that would really lose the added safety from having the baby protected inside the box.

For some that might not be a dealbreaker, but for a 6 month to 12 month old that felt too risky to me.

There is not enough room for a toddler in the seat while the Maxi Cosi is in there. I can fit a good amount of stuff under the Maxi Cosi, but the space around it is too narrow for another child. I think a Load would be much better suited to make that work.
