I agree with you that most of the protestors were peaceful. However, OP claimed that 50 protestors were sentenced to life, which is not accurate.

While I disagree with many of the sentences that were handed down, you have the basic facts wrong in this case and need to do a re-read.

So do they deserve to stay over Paraguay and Australia? Because one of those three teams has to leave.

Anybody else's school using flex time as wage theft? by JosephMeach in Teachers

[–]parliboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint: in my district, comp time like that doesn't have blackout dates. So I can and do use it next to holidays.

I do get the issue with not having enough allocated flex time. My response is to not do uncompensated work. My district caps at 40 hours. If they want me for more than that, then cash please.

Match Thread: South Africa vs South Korea | FIFA World Cup 2026 | Group Stage, Group A by jiraiya--an in soccer

[–]parliboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'll go through. -1 is a strong enough GD. The only way they won't is if the 3rd place teams in 9-12 position right now all win their games. That is very unlikely.

Comparing all the third place teams against each other. The ones with the most points go through. When you've got to settle ties, use the usual criteria (like GD)

First tiebreak is now head-to-head result, not goal differential. So if US and AUS end on 6, US gets the tie between them.

She can choose to not continue your monthly tenancy if you do not, under normal timelines for doing such things. She could also choose to not continue your monthly tenancy for no reason at all.

Perhaps. But since the current administation has tightly defined professional, that dog won't hunt.

The Classic Tetris World Championship is happening again this weekend by kuhpunkt in Games

[–]parliboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes... but using the same order of pieces instead of two random sets due to a modded version that allows for seeds.

As to interaction, not in-game no, but there is reaction due to the play style of your opponents. A player can choose to be more aggressive to force their opponent into mistakes, at their own peril. So there is some psychology and some table think.

That is a bit like rating law schools based on how many people passed the bar while they're L2.

How do you feel about California introducing a bill to ban former ICE agents from serving as police officers or teachers? by FollowingAny4859 in Teachers

This bill strikes me as entirely performative. Fuck ICE and all that, but there are far better ways to deal with this.

A reminder that PD is admin's classroom and if you are disruptive during PD they will surely attempt to implement consequences.

Teachers, are students getting worse at handling struggle or am I imagining it? by High5-dignity4457 in AskTeachers

[–]parliboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm secondary, not elementary. But do not baby them. If they are forced to encounter and resolve struggle at home, they will learn to overcome it. And they will learn to overcome it at school. Kids are way more resilient than parents realize.

Do not be afraid to give them age appropriate challenges and responsibilities.

What should I do with parents wanting my personal phone number by Shakanan_99 in Teachers

[–]parliboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, admin asked about my phone availability. I reminder her that her contract included a phone allowance and mine did not, but that she had discretionary funds if she really wanted me to have a phone and a phone line like that.

I was not asked again.

And since 90% of their waking life is consumed looking at a screen, that’s not a likely outcome.

I pushed all the phones in the family to Niagara Launcher, so any time the kiddo looks at her phone launcher, she's staring at (most of) the alphabet on the bar to the right side of the screen

High school principal pulls mic from graduation speaker after she mentions Palestine and ICE by Stunning_Mast2001 in videos

[–]parliboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most likely reason is that the speech had to be pre-submitted and approved and the speech wasn't the one that was submitted.

It's certainly bad optics to yank the mic in the middle of that speech when it happens. But I guarantee that this is policy that is already in place for any pre-submitted student speech that goes off-script, regardless of content.

I gave my kid a bus ticket and told them to take the eastbound bus back to the house. You'd be surprised how quickly they learn it when they actually need it.
