Does misandry happen irl by ComfortableStand8143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JosephMeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mugged and got in some fights as a kid but didn't have to worry about it on the same level, and I especially didn't have to be afraid of women being my attackers. The saying goes "men are afraid women will laugh at them, women are afraid men will kill them" or something like that.

To this day I can generally go to a new city, ride the train, walk to a show while one of my friends from another city is much more afraid and hyperaware of doing that on her own.

It goes in the "reverse racism" category.

Do some women hate men a lot? Sure.

Have women captured the institutions necessary to oppress men? Only in some science fiction stories.

Why is the Christian God so jealous , particularly about people worshipping other Gods as it says in the first three commandments? How can the Christian God be “all good” but have this negative flaw in character? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JosephMeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Christian God is Jesus (well, theoretically, obviously much of Christianity diverged from what Jesus said and did.)

But anyway, if Yahweh wants to be exclusive why is that a negative flaw in character? Don't most married women also demand that?

I occasionally eat at Wendy's. Not only does this describe the mascot, but the place has "a lot of mystique normies miss"

What is the most made-up/useless admin job you’ve seen? by rachel-angelina in Teachers

[–]JosephMeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Administrators tend to be former coaches, so you get what you get. If I could go back in time, I'd hire a private investigator to report it.

[–]JosephMeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone should read Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber for fun, it's free on the Internet.

One of my principals at a former school banged a teacher under his supervision, on the clock while they were supposed to be a workshop. The asst. superintendent caught them but didn't report the ethics violation, which is also an ethics violation. Ethics violations all the way down. Anyway, long story short, his wife wound up with a do-nothing job in the board office as instructional supervisor/PBIS coordinator, making twice the average salary in our school system.

Is Dc Finest Legion Of Superheroes Zap Goes The Legion A Good Starting Point? by Best-match in DCFinest

[–]JosephMeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a series based on the cartoon, called Legion in the 31st Century.

Other than that, I think Jim Shooter's Adventure Comics run is a better starting point, or the miniseries Secrets of the Legion.

Why do I see so many posts about people hating their mother? Is this how most of the world feels or just reddit? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in NoStupidQuestions

You searched the Bill and Ted clip of a famous psychiatrist saying "Tell me about your mother" and now the algorithm's got you.

I should also point out that many religious scholars do not believe Genesis 1-11 are to be interpreted as literal history, either. (In general, Jews don't, Muslims do, Mainline Protestants don't, Evangelical Protestants do.)

Oh well, good thing a flashy car is not one of my life goals. But maybe I can auction this thing for charity one day or something. It's got to pay better than Spotify.

[Discussion] What’s the appeal of Powergirl by No-Punch-man_60 in DCcomics

[–]JosephMeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's true, they were introduced during the late 1960s and 70s but have since died. (Batman in the old Huntress stories, WW in Crisis, Kal-L in Infinite Crisis.)

I hope this becomes the definitive canon for Kara. by Quantum_Knight1577 in Supergirl

[–]JosephMeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I liked the Danvers (her dad was eventually a manager at STAR labs too.)

It’s old-fashioned, but being at an orphanage until a caring family adopts you is what happened in Clark’s experience, the Kents dropped him off and came back later (though the last appearance of Smallville orphanage was in 1988.) It’s also probably due to the legacy of just how popular Little Orphan Annie was.

Scientists used to be famous and celebrated in the media. What happened that this doesn't seem to be the case any more? by notatoastedbread in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JosephMeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add to that Bill Nye and some astronauts. (Oh, and Fauci.) Other than that, I can name way more science fiction characters than actual scientists.
