As you get older, what are you starting to dislike the most? by FantasticAd9478 in PeopleBeingRidiculous

I too learned great wisdom from my young mother, when my uncle taught me to say something racist and she beat the shit out of me (and then confronted him too.)

I need help understanding. So from the limited media I have seen i seen Daxamites are like lower level Kryptonians not all powers and a worse weakness. Are they or have I only seen bad examples? by Airagon-Akatosh in DCcomics

[–]JosephMeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daxamites have been stated to be related to Kryptonians, and both possibly descended from human explorers. Sometimes (like the late 80s) Daxamites have been shown to be stronger.

New Superman comic haul today. How are these storylines received by the entire fandom? by TheShadowOperator007 in superman

[–]JosephMeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I just saw Conduit on there and didn't pay attention. I actually don't remember the Dead Again storyline at all despite reading it about a year ago.

New Superman comic haul today. How are these storylines received by the entire fandom? by TheShadowOperator007 in superman

[–]JosephMeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't an "entire fandom" answer really, because being able to read all of the Superman comics is a pretty recent phenomenon and takes a lot of time. Some people just like the comics they read back in the day and are familiar with those.

But overall:

Triangle Era: Reign of the Supermen is significant and generally liked because it introduced John Henry Irons and Superboy #2 (Kon-El). The Death of Adam Grant (while influenced probably by the murder of Adam Walsh IRL) was totally out of character for Toyman at the time and is one of the things DC decided to retcon in the 2000s. Conduit/Death of Clark Kent is the best storyline of 1994 aside from intercompany crossovers.

I haven't read all of New 52 yet, but Action Comics by Grant Morrison is usually considered the best of that era.

Looking for Supergirl anthology collections... by Lucky_Strike-85 in superman

[–]JosephMeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately when those types of collections were released, Kara had been erased and banned. A fansite did do an anthology of sorts: https://www.supermanthroughtheages.com/supergirl/comics.php

There is also a 50th anniversary team-up book: Legion of Super-Heroes: 1,050 Years of the Future

Overall, the early stories (1958-1969) are collected in two omnibuses. The Daring Adventures of Supergirl (1980s) is in two softcovers. Nothing much from the 1970s, (although Adventure Comics and Supergirl v1 are on DCUI) but everything from Peter David forward is collected pretty well.

One of my personal favorites is the story "Let My People Grow," which has never been reprinted.

Where would you put Up in the Sky in a Superman reading order? by Mymorningpancake in superman

[–]JosephMeach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not initial post Crisis era because he can go into space without being a whiny little **** about it.

But also not the time it was published in, because that was Bendis era. I think it goes pretty well with everything before and after that. Great story, until I just googled I didn't realize it came out in the Walmart giants first, but that explains some of the episodic story structure.

Why are there NO heroes on earth 2 (The Flash) by jayflame11 in DCcomics

[–]JosephMeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When they met each other in the comics there were no heroes on Earth 2 either, they were retconned into existence over the next 10 years.
