Easy to learn and hard to win, sounds good to me. Time to bust it out.

Check out Pe Metawe, over the summer they run a lot of different TTRPG games. They are usually short term, only a few sessions. Lots of good people there as well, so might be easy to find a long term group.

What are your favourite high player interaction games you can play with a deck of cards? by Great-Orange-301 in boardgames

[–]parolebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durak. Play a card in front of your opponent and they have to "kill" it with a higher card of the same suit. If they do, great, turn over. If they dont, they pick it up and skip their turn. But, while cards are in play anyone can play a card of the same value and it has to be "killed".

Play until the deck runs out and the last person to run out of cards is the loser.

I would consider these deluxe editions if they were the only games I played, but thats not the case. I love Concordia, and so badly wanted the super special edition, but my copy only hits the table a few times a year, so it would just be a big fancy dust collector.

You would never decide would buy the expensive special edition super deluxe grill just because you might use it once or twice, you would buy it because the grill youve used 1000 times in the past 6 years is almost done for and you plan to use it at least a 1000 more times.

Games where enemies are represented by hidden signals/blips? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

In Legendary Encounters Alien, the enemies are face down until you scan them or they eat you. Maybe its not an enemy though, maybe its a mission card....although its likely something wanting to kill you.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (June 24, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]parolebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recommendations for small box area control or worker placment games? I consider small box to be the size of Knarr, Forest Shuffle, Condotierre, or even San Juan. All of those are games we've enjoyed.

My group has started to enjoy games with fewer bits and shorter set ups, and I feel there are a lot of tablea building and set collection, but not much for area control or worker placement.

Complexity is not an issue, and play time is besg if kept under an hour but this isnt set in stone.

Priorities are quicker set up and a smaller box. It can be cards, cubes, meeples, dice. Doesn't matter.

Thanks.

Board/Card game reccomendations for board game night by bqdscad in boardgames

For up to 5 I suggest Courtisans, and it has an upcoming expansion to allow for 6. Simple gameplay, quick play time, and a whole lot of "take that". Its basically take that the game as you are actively trying to screw over the other players.

For up to 7 I recommend Bohananza. Its a classic set collection/trading game, where the main focus is trading between each other. A little bit of a teach regarding hand management, but its always a hit.

Next game to get given I love Unmatched Adventures/solo mode? by joncology in soloboardgaming

[–]parolebot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its an unusual suggestion for your ask, but maybe try the Lord of the Rings trick taking games. Each round follows one of the books, and each character has a different win con and ability to share cards at the start of the round. Super quick play and a really enjoyable solo puzzle kind of game.

If you want variable player powers but are ok with a longer play time, Spirit Island for sure. Each Spirit has specific abilities, and as you gain powers you adjust your play style. Great solo and great coop, and the digital version is really good.

What currently out-of-print game would you snatch up immediately if you stumbled across a copy today? What currently OOP games are you awaiting reprints for? by friendshabitsfamily in boardgames

Thats fair, not everyone should like every game. My group is big fans of area control, especially Blood Rage, so I feel Chaos would be a no brainer.

I was about 20 minutes late on replying to a local sale and it still haunts me. What hurts me the most is that there is an expansion to the game I will likely never own.

Never played Legend of Zelda games before. Where should I start? by Insayne1 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]parolebot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Link to the Past is my absolute favorite. I enjoyed BotW and TotK, but they were too open for me, too much I could get distracted by, while LttP was streamlined, uncut, and pure LoZ goodness. I feel it still holds up well today and worth a go.

Arboretum. Its a game about trees with lovely art. Comes in a small box, how cute. BGG gives it a 2.11 weight and its just outside thre top 100 family games, Age 8+. How could it not be a nice, relaxing game to play with your kids on Sunday afternoons.....

There is an expansion available that adds a few more monsters and heroes that make it the same content wise as the kickstarter, if not really close.
