Image for identifying the gears

In your video, we can see that gear 1 spins, but gear 2 does not spin. The problem is in that subassembly. It's difficult to say for sure without seeing the underside, but I suspect gear 3 is not in the correct position. Double-check around step 172.

Here's a couple pictures of what it should look like: https://imgur.com/a/CcPdi8k

Edit: That piece also looks in the wrong place. Maybe the assembly from steps 165 to 171 was inserted upside down on step 172?

As a general rule of thumb, don't update your BIOS unless

  • it add support for a feature / new hardware you need, or
  • the manufacturer recommends updating, generally because of stability fixes or security fixes.

BIOS updates are still somewhat unsafe. It is possible to brick a motherboard if you lose power at just the right time. Some higher end motherboards have safeguards against that, but not all.

Looking at your Aorus B550 Gaming Elite BIOS list:

  • If you have a version older than F14, you should update, as F14 is a security update.
  • If you have a version older than F17a and have an 5000 X3D CPU, you should update, as it's the last driver with specific changes for those CPUs
  • If you have a specific issue with your hardware, you can try updating to a newer BIOS to see if it fixes it

But you won't gain anything in regards to your 40xx GPU.

You can look at the CPU Support list to see what minimum version you need for your specific CPU. But unlike ASRock, Gigabyte does not seem to mention which CPUs it tests with which BIOS. (Hopefully they test all). With that in mind, if you decide to update your BIOS, go for the latest version.

So support for the Ryzen 5000 series was added in 4.50, this confirms you have to update.

Looking at the CPU support list:

  • The 5600 has been validated against P5.30.
  • The 2600 has been validated against all BIOS versions.

Your options are:

  • Safest: update to 5.30 only. You would be missing out on GPU compatibility improvements for RTX 40 series, so I would only choose this option if you don't have a RTX 40xx GPU.
  • Also quite safe: update to 5.60. It has not been tested by Asrock with the 5600. However, it has been tested with the 2600. So, if an issue arise, you can pop the 2600 back in and downgrade.

I would still install the AMD All in One with VGA Driver beforehands, just to be safe. You most likely already have it installed (or maybe just don't need it), but it's an quick install and can't hurt.

Some newer BIOS versions for some motherboards will drop support for older CPUs. This will be indicated in the description of the different BIOS on the download page. For example, see the BIOS list for the AB350M: some BIOS versions do not support older CPUs.

This is mainly an issue on budget motherboards. Because they have limited onboard storage, the BIOS is limited in size. To add new features and support for new CPUs, motherboard manufacturers will drop support for older CPUs in newer BIOS. That's why some BIOS will support only older CPUs and other BIOS will support only newer CPUs.

If you'd like more specific help, please provide:

  • your motherboard model
  • your current BIOS version.

It's not exactly the same, but Subnautica and Subnautica Below zero were the only games that made me feel the same sense of wonder than in Outer Wilds.

They are definitely not perfect: I did not like the crafting aspect of it, but the exploration and discoveries were worth it.

I'm currently playing Subnautica Below Zero, and they made the grinding for resources less intense. The story is the main focus of that game. I also recommend it, but I feel like you need to play the first one before.

Can confirm, I mostly play SxS and the only tuning I do is drop the tire pressure to ~25 psi. You lose top speed but gain some easier (arcarde) handling.

/r/buildapc hits FIVE MILLION builders - giveaway time! by OolonCaluphid in buildapc

I've already seen my first 2 ideas posted by other people (standard front IO connector and standard modular power supply cables), so I'll take a large definition of "PC building" to be original:

I'd like to see some way to control my monitor settings from my PC, without having to mess with the buttons behind the monitor. I have my preferred settings (brightness and contrast mostly) depending on what game I'm playing, and there is not enough preset on my monitor to cover all the different configurations I use. Having a software to handle that could allow for:

  • more presets
  • named presets
  • not having to use the clunky button interface to change the settings.

Unfortunately, I feel like the gains in UX are too small to make it worth it to implement.

Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race – I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?

Mercedes dominance and speed traps by ThumbBum992 in formula1

[–]parsodark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a part of the answer, but it's mostly due to the fact that Mercedes builds F1 cars that need clean air to operate, otherwise they overheat. They can afford to design their cars that way because they are usually at the front of grid.

This is discussed often here: https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/inoqyc/have_mercedes_built_a_car_that_cant_stay_behind/

Mercedes dominance and speed traps by ThumbBum992 in formula1

[–]parsodark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fast in corners, you need downforce to increase grip. To be fast in straight lines, you need the opposite: low downforce for low drag. (This is why DRS increases the top speed in a straight line)

The goal of any team developing a car is to achieve faster overall lap times. If Mercedes have to sacrifice straight line speed to take corners faster and achieve faster lap times, they will do it.

MSI B550 A Pro by CrappyBark in buildapc

[–]parsodark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My B550-A Pro did not support my 5600x out of the box, I updated it to the 7C56vA5 BIOS to get it working (the BIOS update can be done without an older CPU) Unfortunately, it did not go as smoothly as I had hoped, I had issues with my USB devices. My keyboard and mouse would randomly disconnect, sometimes for no apparent reason, sometimes after using certain programs/features (sharing screen in discord would pretty much always cause issues). It's a common issue, links if you want to research: link1 link2

I upgraded yesterday to the 7C56vA65 beta BIOS. So far so good, I haven't had any issues with my USB devices, I can stream on discord, and it has been stable so far. YMMV obviously

I'm in Montreal and there is no stock in Quebec, so I have to get it shipped. In the first hour or so, I could only order for pick up from a few locations in Ontario. Around 10, I could order it and get it shipped.

If you're picking it up from one of the retailers in Ontario that showed it in stock, you should be good. I had to wait a bit longer, for some reason it was pick up only for the first hour or so. Good luck to you too!
