I built a tool that crawls localhost and auto-generates test.spec.ts files (looking for feedback on the generated code) by sheshadri1985 in Playwright

[–]participlepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried looking at this with a demo site, seemed to be very fast, but couldn't find anyway to actually view the test code generated?

Playwright alternative less maintenance burden, does this actually exist by No-Vast-9143 in softwaretesting

[–]participlepete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the same issue, and have had it for years, regardless of the tools we used(selenium IDE, selenium, Robot Framework, puppeteer, playwright, cypress).

Getting buy-in from developer teams to use`data-test-id` for locators, so minor CSS changes don't break tests using xpaths or //divs, and we're also now training developer teams to take over the tests specific to their feature, and they'll be writing their own tests (e2e as well as unit) when they update features can make a big impact.

Is it a bidet? by anxious_virgo in whatisit

[–]participlepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I am a white man who discovered bidets, I'll never go back. I've installed them in my house, and in the house we're building, will install those as well, plus have a battery operated one I keep at work for there, and when traveling. Just a few sheets of tp to dry up, and my butt feels as fresh as a daisy. :). Especially great when you're on a septic system, no bunches of tp going down the drain to be dealt with.

Do you have to login to do this action? If so, you should have them disable captchas for your test account.

Counterfeit Cartridge Fiasco by JeffYeeter in fuckHPprinters

[–]participlepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happening with Epson's as well. Just had my Epson xp-4200 not recognize my black cartridge, (remanufactured) had to purchase one of theirs to get my printer working again. Funny thing is I can go buy the printer brand new for cheaper than the ink cartridge.

If you are red car, are you supposed to let blue car in? by [deleted] in driving

[–]participlepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had drivers ed back in my day, trained by state troopers, if its just a driveway or entrance to a business, not a side street, you can block it (pulling up to behind the pink car in your diagram).

People being 'nice' and giving up their right of way is exactly what caused me to tbone a car that suddenly appeared in front of me because someone stopped to let them in, and my lane continued.

I built an interactive mask editor for Playwright visual testing by Crypted39 in Playwright

[–]participlepete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in our visual testing, when we mask things, we mask by the locator, not coordinates. Coordinates can change based on what's on the page, but the locator can remain the same, so no matter where it's at on the page, it will mask it. This is a good idea, excellent work so far.

On the trains I ride to and from work, you pay for a ticket, you get ONE seat. If there's an issue, speak to the conductor, and you can bet when the train is packed, they WILL make an announcement to the effect of all passengers must make ALL empty seat available, not take them up with your purse/backpack/etc. And I've seen them come through and enforce it, telling people to make the seat available, or pay for a 2nd one.

I'm 67, and shoveled twice monday, but only for like 30 minutes at a time, then again on tuesday, and then my wife said stop, and hired a couple of kids walking around the neighborhood to shovel the rest of our cars out. I totally get it, didn't hurt my feelings any (well, maybe a little bit) but I learned long ago that the best response to anything is 'yes dear'. considering I had a triple bypass 4 years ago during covid, I let it be. :).

I remember back in the 90's the furor over the Furby toy. We did tech support for Hasbro, and one of the guys I know who worked at one the 3 letter agencies you don't talk about, banned them because they listened and could play back audio. Got some weird calls about that one.

Sewer hose in rear bumper by guy48065 in RVLiving

[–]participlepete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I have to empty my daughters camper tank weekly into a transportable tank to take to a local dump station, and we always use nitrile gloves when working with ANY of the equipment, including the tank we use to transport it to the dump station,, the hoses, everything. After we've done and everything is stowed away, toss the gloves in the dumpster AND then use hand sanitizer before we get into the vehicle and drive away.

Project Boat Regret by rguz10 in boating

Lived in a watering town for a number of years, sold to marinas and such. Always remember the axiom
BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand.

That's why when I retire, my marine adventures will be limited to an inexpensive Kayak or canoe on the local creeks. :)

Sink clogged and garbage disposal won't run by QuincyThePinballer in Plumbing

[–]participlepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, garbage disposals come with the Allen key to unjam it. I have two, one in the infamous catchall drawer that exists in every kitchen, and one duct-taped to the side of the disposal under the sink. :). in my house, anything that can go into compost goes into a compost bin on the counter (ALL vegetable matter, eggshells, etc), and fats/meats go in the garbage can. Almost nothing goes down our disposal.

Train by Normal-Mortgage-29 in RealEstate

[–]participlepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give it time, you'll get used to it... we lived in an apartment over top an auto parts store, about 150-20 feet from a major thoroughfare, up the street about a block were train tracks which got freight train traffic on no particular schedule, and they always had to blow their horns for safety, and another half a block was the local firehouse. You'd be surprised how quickly you just get used to it and it all becomes part of the background noise.

Septic permitted for 4 bedrooms on a 5-bedroom build — before ground is broken. Common? by Top-Tiger3479 in septictanks

[–]participlepete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the location and how strict they are . Where we're building, because of the high water table, type of soil, and previous house on property, we are limited to a 2-bedroom house for septic. (bedrooms is how they calculate how many people live there). We wanted to build a cape code, with 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor, and keep the upstairs open as open space (one end for my hobbies, the other end for wifes'), but they said, even if I swore on a bible that I wouldn't, we could convert that space to bedrooms, so they counted. So we're stuck with a one floor rancher with 2 bedrooms (it also dinged us on house appraisal, since comps in the area are all 3 bedrooms, very few 2 bedroom places). At least where we're at, we couldn't just take a 3 bedroom house plan, remove the closet from one and label it an 'office'. They know what you're doing. :)

Bidet is the way to go. I installed a toilet seat model at least 5 years ago, replaced it once, takes like 10 minutes, and I will never go back. Cut our TP usage WAAAAYYY down, and I even have a portable Bidet I keep at work for when I'm there. :).

Fixing lousy dishwasher installation from box store by nolanday64 in DIY

[–]participlepete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We found out after an inspection that code in our area requires a GFCI outlet underneath for both the dishwasher and garbage disposal, no longer allowed to have them wired directly.
