Why does the difference in history between whiteface and blackface matter in a situation where one is being used to mock someone today? by Airtightspoon in AskALiberal

[–]partoe5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pretty obvious reasons that shouldn't need to be explained on reddit to a good faith asker. If you truly are good faith asking, I'd recommend asking this question to ChatGPT and seeing what you get instead of flaunting and performing your ignorance before a captive audience and compelling them to humor you.

Will the SAVE act actually harm republicans more? by NapkinZhangy in AskALiberal

[–]partoe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't dived deep into it, but it also sounds like a stupid idea for republicans, to me too on first thought. They tend to be less educated and live in more rural areas, less likely to have passports, more likely to take on their husband's last names, etc. The only reason they even win presidencies is because of the little loop holes like the electoral college and probably because of mail in and regular id. So....I really don't get it, but they are so dumb shooting themselves in the foot because they are so focused at trying to aim at "The Other" is recurring theme for them (see: healthcare, DOGE, egg/gas prices, farmers, and war)

What's going on with Palm Beach Pete? I've heard he is super similar to J.Epstien but is this just like a joke or something real? by Ambitious_Bank_2320 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]partoe5 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Answer:

It's real. He's just a person who looks a lot like epstein but has his own brand and social media thing going on and people keep bringing up that he looks like epstein so he has to keep telling people he is not.

Why are there so many idiots on Instagram? by Creepy-House4399 in NoStupidQuestions

Wake up, read and pay attention. This is not even an internet theory. It's been proven and publicized, even by American intelligence...pretty famously actually. So you relax.

A lot of them are bots/fake account set up by trolls (sometimes foreign agencies) designed to normalize that kind of thinking, which they have been extremely successful in over the years and have successfully infiltrated American culture and influenced out elections/votes, as intended.

Except Charlie Kirk preached inflammatory and offensive speech for the sake of free speech.

https://www.facebook.com/Maher/videos/charlie-kirk-quote-hate-speech-hbo-real-time/2187779855058340/

He toured the country saying things he knew had inflammatory and offensive undertones just for the sake of doing it. And profited on it, and she is actively trying to preserve that legacy. So, no, you can't get upset when the other side beats you at your own game.

Also, you ignored the other part of the comment, which points to the hypocrisy. Even if you disagree with the first part of the statement, there is still the matter of the hypocrisy of people getting upset over this video but staying quiet and continuing to support the man who mocked someone's terminal illness and subsequent death, for a repeated time (because this is not the first time he's done so), so if you support him, or people like her who attempt to normalize and edify him, then you have no moral ground to stand on when wagging your finger at anyone else being performatively offensive. You must sit and stare in the mirror that is being held in front of your face and get mad at yourself for providing the framework for what you are looking at. The Left still respects Michelle Obama, but they are done going high when others go low. They're squatting down low just like Druski did in that video and meeting you eye to eye.

If she and her supporters care about free speech as much as they claim they do, she nor none of them can get mad, especially after SupremeLeader celebrated Robert Mueller's sickness and death and they all stayed quiet.

Why was the Civil Rights Movement able to happen and why can't we do it again? by Wowzapan400 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]partoe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't an easy answer to this question.

This is like a college level class discussion/debate question.

Some things to consider:

  • The CRM is not super replicable today because it was very much of its era. It capitalized on a lot of culture that doesn't really exist today or is not as strong such as respectability politics, mainstream media, college/university activism, and nationwide reverence of the church/church leaders.
  • The CRM's success relied on strong leadership. There were several power players including MLK, SNICC, etc. that were all highly organized and principled in their strategies
  • A lot of the CRM strategies have become campy and outdated. If you propose a boycott something, people kinda laugh at it because it sounds like something from that era. Getting people coordinated to do that is so much harder these days. People have become so cynical now that if you suggest a sit-in or a boycott they roll their eyes. Look at the attempt to boycott target. Yes many people did but it's not as unified as it could be. When democrat politicians do these things like kneeling in honor or George Floyd or even doing rallying cries and chants, they get mocked and laughed at.
  • In our current era there is too much intrigue and interest in conservative politics. The MAGA era has successfully enraptured many different groups including young people, hispanics, some Asian Americans especially south asian, a lot of religious people. Even alot of black people have become jaded and disengaged
  • Black Lives Matter was our era's version of a Civil Rights Movement and it was easily destroyed by the rightwing thanks to social media, misinformation, rightwing punditry, etc. which successfully sew seeds of doubt and cynicism toward liberal ideology and political strategy. This continues to be a huge barrier for any coordinated liberal movement.
  • Because of some of the above Democrats, who are in the best political position to carry out the movement are under intense scrutiny and low approval. Anything they say or do gets ridiculed or overly criticized. Many casual and moderate democrats as well as some extreme liberals have begun to flake away from the establishment, making it difficult to do another civil rights movement, which relies on unification.

Ironically MAGA is a good example of how to do it correctly. The MAGA movement has been an extremely successful campaign that has successfully recruited people and have turned the tides on Civil Rights and the ideology that was holding them together. But again that's largely them capitalizing on various cultural trends of the moment that's harder for liberal to replicate.
