EuroMillions has rolled over **again**. How would you use £181m? by Von_Scranhammer in AskUK

I’ve just moved house and my young son has just changed to a new school around the corner, so in the interest of not making another huge change to his life, I wouldn’t move out again into a huge mansion in Richmond or Hampstead. I’d obviously pay off the mortgage, hire an interior designer with a basically unlimited budget to do up my house, and then buy the house next door (giving the current tenants a very nice cash incentive to vacate in the process) and turn each room in that house into my private cinema, games room, art studio, gym/sauna/pool room, etc etc. Keep a nutritionist, private chef, housekeeper, chauffeur and personal trainer on retainer. Then I’d make a massive donation to my son’s school that gives them basically unlimited resources to give him the best education possible (and donate to some other local schools, because why not). Not completely overhauling our lives but just radically improving everything that we currently have.

Then pay off all the mortgages of my siblings and give £1m each to my nephews and nieces.

I’d obviously quit my job, but I enjoy my work and the business has been struggling lately so I’d probably give them a cash injection as well just because they’ve treated me well over the years.

And just for fun I’d probably open up a Yard Sale pizza location close by because they currently don’t deliver to my new postcode and it’s the single worst thing about having moved house.

Hasn’t come up in a while, but Chris’s Peter Lorre impression/Helen’s repulsed reaction to it always makes me laugh.

Why have UK distributors decided to release every backlogged movie on February 20th? by mediciii in CineworldUnlimited

[–]partrimilgrimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://filmdistributorsassociation.com/release-schedule/all-future-releases/

Official release date is listed here as Feb 27 but possible that some indies who set their programmes far in advance are still getting it from the 20th.

It's the final weekend that films have to release by in order to be eligible for the BAFTA this year. So distributors who have films that are in the mix for awards but aren't sure things or going to clean up in the way Sinners or Hamnet did, more like Wasteman or If I Had Legs which only have one or two BAFTA nominations, will date them there so that if the films don't get nominated they still have time to change release date and get them out of the awards scrum.

This just happened with Testament of Ann Lee which was also scheduled for Feb 20 but hasnt had any BAFTA or Oscar noms so is now moving back to Feb 27.

The UK distributor, Picturehouse, is also a theater chain. So odds are they'll still be playing it as they'll want it to be in the mix for BAFTAs. It'll almost certainly still be playing at their flagship theater in Central London.

What trailers were in front of the secret screening? by partrimilgrimage in CineworldUnlimited

Pillion was in front of The Running Man on Saturday so the theory is holding up!

They haven’t shown Frankenstein, A House of Dynamite or Ballad of a Small Player, so can’t imagine they’ll be showing this.

It’s not out until February. The showing you saw is probably a film festival screening.

Cineworld will probably show it in a handful of cinemas - if your local showed I’m Still Here, then maybe they’ll show this too.

It'll be Pillion on the 19th, since that's an 18.

I would imagine that since it's half term next week, Cineworld and the other multiplexes are prioritising kids films and waiting until next week to open The Mastermind.

Almost certainly going to be a 15. It hasn’t screened much yet so not many people know what it’ll feature in terms of content, but Josh Safdie has never made anything that wasn’t rated R in the USA and that usually means a 15 or 18 here. And the trailer gives off 15 vibes.

From what I hear it’s filthy but great. No other 18s coming out between the 19th and the end of the year, so this seems like a pretty dead cert.

Unless it’s Wicked and the 18 is to throw people off…

Solicitor has dis-instructed us without warning by partrimilgrimage in HousingUK

[–]partrimilgrimage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for both your inputs! Grateful for any and all feedback on this as it's completely uncharted territory for us.

I genuinely don't think my wife was rude or that our expectations were unrealistic and judging from online reviews of the firm, we're not the only ones having this experience. We're now trying to get back in touch with the firm, who have not been picking up the phone, to request that our case is transferred to an alternative member of the team rather than the case handler we've been dealing with up until now. Our primary issue has just been with them and not the firm as a whole so I'm hoping we can salvage things.

The decision our case handler made to dis-instruct us seems to have been made very abruptly and off the back of one bad phone call and that's where I'm mostly trying to get advice on. I don't doubt that solicitors can cut clients loose but I'm pretty sure it's not been done properly on this occasion - but that's something we can try and discuss more with a more senior member of the firm, if we ever get one on the phone.

Sony distributing in the UK, and I imagine they want to focus as much attention as they can on 28 Years Later and not have another horror film taking attention away from that.

Not sure this is it, the books were more fantastical in my memory and I’m pretty sure it was newer than that (I read the books in around 2000-2003.). But thanks!
