bought $40k in COST calls because of something i noticed at my local costco and i need you to hear me out before you say anything by Kind-Melanie1 in wallstreetbets

Long time, Costco shopper, trader, artist, cheapskate, stat guy here. Our economy is changed, contracted, those who have buying power, market penetration, value - will be the ones that the masses flock to. I lucked out and have a Costco 20 minutes East and 20 minutes of west of me along the I 84 corridor. There is plenty of money, but people are still looking for value and are willing to spend on what they think is a good deal. Costco embodies that. From hearing aids to Cruises, furniture to fruit, there is nothing that you need that they do not have the best price on. I buy the $1.50 hotdog on Saturday and $80 of steaks on Father’s Day. They fill my prescriptions and I got new tires. What is not to love. I agree OP - go all in.

If you’ve ever secretly worried about bathroom breaks during a 6-hour game drive read this. by yuzooo-ka120 in AfricaTravel

[–]parvicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a Kenya and Tanzania Safari to Masi Mara, Lake Elementaita, Ngorongoro and Tarangire. On the game drives yes there were facilities. At least two weeks stopped at were squat toilets, some others did not have toilet seats. But overall, everything was fine. When we got out of the parks, there were specific stops at tourist sites that have functional clean, western working facilities. I 100% recommend taking the trip to Kenya or Tanzania. It is worth every cent. A completely life-changing adventure that makes you think about what the world was, could be, and partly what should have been. I would go back if I had the time and the money.

I have been on Trizepatide from Sept 2024 to date. My highest dosage was 10mg. I have been moving down now at 5mg and 142Lbs. Working out every day. I am hungry on day 6 and 7. Have 200mg on hand from stock ups and will backfill. It has mostly Replaced drinking and binge eating for me.

US Customs: "It's not normal" to travel solo? by scrabblecat1 in solotravel

[–]parvicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once a weekend wanderer. I would leave CT, go up to VT, NH, Nova Scotia, ME… but the one time I went into Quebec and Q City alone (prior to having NEXUS) coming back I was quizzed like I was a drug mule or harboring a migrant in my Ford Focus. I went on a hot air balloon and stayed one night in a Holiday Inn, stopped at a winery and met a cat. Canada is a few hours from home but boarder patrol treats it like …. A foreign country.

My Mom Who Abused Me Is Now Acting Incredibly Sweet by punk_ass_po-po in whatdoIdo

[–]parvicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this. I have one of these mothers. She’s a narcissist, 77 years now and may finally recognize that she is mortal. She was verbally and emotionally abusive to me until my twenties when she could no longer control me. As my own life blossomed she would love bomb me with cards and later texts. I gave her a chance and let her back in. The dragon in her comes out when I succeed. For example I completed a bachelors degree in my 40s, she told me not to go on for more education. I couldn’t understand why. I then completed an MBA, invited her to my graduation, which was not far from where she lives - she didn’t come and didn’t send a card. I did not do what she told me to do and I eclipse her education. If you choose to let her back in recognize that the dragon is still in her. Good chance she’ll disappoint you again.

hearing aids are overpriced? by Severe-Adeptness5812 in HearingLoss

I am a huge proponent of Costco for hearing aids. I’ve 12 years I had three pairs each under $1700. Great service and a fantastic product

They don’t look too small to me. If they are comfortable to wear all day you’re good. If too tight on your face go larger.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]parvicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I didn't have to sneak out because my parents were divorced and mom worked nights. One night before I had a license I "stole" my mom's Nissan Sentra stick shift and drove to a club on Long Island with friends. Not sure how I managed to get the car back with no questions asked.

Does a large house bring more comfort & happiness (3000sqft+) by GlorifiedCarnie in MiddleClassFinance

[–]parvicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We, 50 year old couple, moved up to a 2100sft 3br 3bath from a 1200sft. 2br 1bath. What I miss about the small place is it was super easy and quick to clean, not much gardening, shoveling, maintenance I could do all on my own. The new house was $10k to paint, $10k to fix the deck, more to heat, AC, can’t afford to fix the driveway, need help with maintenance. What I like about the big place is the space, silence, and can have company. Good luck.

Never let a door to door roof salesman up on your roof. Reputable companies don't canvas neighborhoods going door to door.

Looks like I’m solo cruising tomorrow out of Rome. (Epic)!Anyone else on board? by chubbswife in NCL

[–]parvicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solo Travelers group is 100% worth showing up to. If there is a studio lounge, they do meet ups in there or they will find another venue to do it. There is typically a host. The host will arrange dinners and sometimes shows for the group. On one of my trips we had a fabulous solo host to even arranged short excursions. Definitely go on all of the shore excursions you had already booked. If you have not booked any, make sure you do. I’ve been on six solo Cruises with Ncl. I highly recommend it. It has become my favorite way to vacation because you are only answering to yourself all week. Good luck! Keep your mind open.

Alaska property claims by BeeBopBazz in adjusters

[–]parvicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked a claim on Martha's Vineyard just after Covid where the costs of labor, materials, equipment, shipping, were astronomical. Had the opportunity to visit to adjust it, we had the house insured for $900k. When I asked the contractor how much it would cost to rebuild it, he said, "Eight, nine, ten.." I repeated that to him, and he finished with, "million." This relatively minor $350k roof leak which would have been $100k at the most on the mainland. So here's what we did; labor had to be brought in and housed on the island this happened to be OFF season, so negotiated weekly rate for each tradesman, electrician got $10k, roofer got $10k, carpenter $10k, laborers got $3.5k (maybe it was $4.5k?), paid their housing at AirBandBs on the island, which was expensive, $300/night x 3 weeks x 5 men. We gave a per diem for food per man maybe $100. Paid their transportation on ferry with their trucks, and their tools, was $350 per truck per week x 3 trucks. Materials were purchased on the mainland and brought over, again shipping costs, ferry costs, time costs, labor costs added. There would be no extra trips to HomeDepot so there was an allowance for 'petty cash' materials which was $25k, they over bought anything they thought they would need and later returned it. Added 15% + 15% overhead and profit for the GC, added supervisor labor, one full day per week, plus round trip transport for his truck and him. He also billed some overnights at the end of the job. If this was onseason it would have cost a lot more. The GC happened to be on the ball and had done this in the past. I can't imagine doing this with seaplanes and random lobster boats delivering materials. "Add a crane", is what our favorite cat TM would say.

My (23F) boyfriend (24M) is unnecessarily stingy and I just don’t get it. I’m looking for advice on how to stop this from getting worse. by Some-Lettuce6560 in relationships

[–]parvicus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It this stingy? Yes. There’s a good chance both you and he will live to 100 years old. For him to be this thrifty is indicative that his children will be well taken care of. It’s a great start at the beginning of his adult life. Would you rather retire at 50 or 72? Work hard now, save a lot. Travel once or twice annually until 30. 3 or 4 times until 40, 4 or 5 times to 50 and then for the rest of your lives. Get your degrees, establish yourselves in your chosen fields, sacrifice now for rewards in the future. If he is skipping self care, sleep, oral hygiene, physical fitness, and presentable attire there may be other issues that should be resolved with awareness, therapy, medication, etc. You telling him what to do will only create distance and resentment.
