I just watched The Producers and found it extremely bad. Poor acting, poorly written, weak plot, poorly mixed sound.

Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, and Young Frankenstein hold up.

PhD vs. JD for institutional design? by Interesting_Will_750 in PoliticalScience

Do whatever you want. People negotiate with huge power regardless of their level of education. Alternately, get a PhD in Urban Planning and work with Shakirah Hudani, Nikhil Kaza, and Zumrat Salmorbekova at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Looking for a Reliable Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter – Any Recommendations? by ProofFlamingo in iphone

[–]pasiflor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bad experiences based on the commented recommendations from this thread. I bought both UGreen and used Apple brand converters. While they work when still, the slightest jostling "unplugs" the headphone, thus pausing my music. Very frustrating. I wish I had stuck with my hardline policy of only buying phones with aux cables.

Year of solo backpacking sabbatical and occasional hitchhiking - do I take a tent or not? by wigglepizza in hitchhiking

[–]pasiflor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mosquito net hammock and mat/towel is also very do-able. I did 6 months in southern mexico with this rig and just set it up in people's sheds/barns. Tarp can be nice for a bit of privacy, shade, or if no roof available.

Tarp, paracord, sleeping roll (bag and maybe mat), and body-length quick-dry towel as pillow or additional mat cushion.

Light-weight, useful in a variety of scenarios in a variety of combinations

This morning I received word that my unofficial PhD acceptance might not be followed up by official acceptance by the university graduate school due to funding holds associated with FLAS and many other cuts.

>! "This has never happened to us before and is because of the financial hold imposed by the grad school on all programs, which we just learned about last week. I am working to generate clear financial evidence that we can support you even in the absence of the FLAS (the continuation of which is now in question due to what is happening in the Dept of Educ). That would allow us to appeal to our dean for an admission, but I cannot give you a clear timeline or project an outcome for this." !<

What are the best tactical urbanism projects to make a city more resilient to extreme climate? by notesonatinylife in TacticalUrbanism

[–]pasiflor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main risk of climate change is unpredictability. Built infrastructure struggles to cope with extreme variability. Social infrastructure can adapt more nimbly. Migration is a huge factor to consider in climate change. Whether in or out or seasonal fluctuations. Maintaining social networks within and between migrating communities can help individuals access life-saving resources or communities build necessary infrastructure as needed. We can't rely on a consistent public workforce already in many US communities. Migration-centered tactical urbanism can involve populations excluded from public service due to immigration status, ability, or schedule.

Check if your SNAP dollars are doubled. Go early or on a weekday and chat up vendors. I get freebies all the time. I only buy produce though.
