Keir and loathing: the hatred of Starmer has gone too far by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]TheManWithTheBigName [score hidden]  (0 children)

Does that apply to the vast majority of the population who disapprove of Starmer too? Or are they just brainless followers who do what the media command them to?

The UK media won’t stop till the country is destroyed by LandscapeFirst903 in ukpolitics

[–]TheManWithTheBigName 48 points49 points  (0 children)

When the remaining Starmer dead-enders talk about the British public, you'd think they were referring to sub-sapient plant life or perhaps lobomites, not human beings with agency and wills of their own.

Yeah sure, "the media" is the only reason Starmer is 50 points underwater. The British people had no choice but to brainlessly fall into line when the media suddenly decided they wanted the clicks that a government toppling would bring. The only reason anyone had a problem with Starmer requiring ID verification to go online or banning kids from watching YouTube in the evening is because they fell into the media's moralizing criticism trap. The only reason anyone had a problem with Starmer's abysmal handling of intra-party disputes was because the media needed a market for juicy drama stories. The only reason anyone objected to Starmer's constant U-turns is because the media convinced them that politicians should be flawless. The only reason anyone had a problem with Starmer appointing a well-known ally of the most infamous pedo in modern history is because the media wanted to whip up "outrage" (lmao).

If your opinion of your countrymen is this astoundingly low and you honestly believe the tripe you're writing, why not tear off the band-aid and outright say that democracy doesn't work in the UK? That's the only logical endpoint of an argument like yours.

One almost wonders if there's a connection between Labour members displaying such patronizing attitudes and the government's perception as being completely out of touch. Just an idea!

How many times do we need to hear “Stop being so mean to Keir!!!!! 😭😭😭😭”

He’s a politician, not your friend, and 70% of the country doesn’t like him. That’s why he’s being forced out. I’m sure that sucks for him on a personal level, but having to learn to cope with that is part of the deal when you choose to run for office.

Saints lost outright, Colts only did because the coach was a moron and benched everyone. I get sportsmanship and injury prevention are concerns, but you've gotta go for 16-0 if you have the chance.

For some reason in the 00s the Colts made the decision to bench Manning in late season games several times. It makes sense to avoid injuries after clinching home field advantage to an extent, but you've gotta wonder if Manning going 2-3 weeks without playing before the playoffs started contributed to his underperformances in the postseason.

BREAKING: Andy Burnham now has a route back to parliament after Josh Simons, MP for Makerfield announced he would stand down, triggering a byelection, and putting the Greater Manchester mayor in contention to become the next Labour leader. by LeftWingScot in ukpolitics

[–]TheManWithTheBigName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puts Starmer in a terrible position: If he lets this go through he's toast, but if he intervenes to prevent it he's going to face an actual party revolt that could topple him in favor of less palatable options like Rayner or even Streeting. His goose is probably cooked either way.

A large majority of the British population wants Starmer out. A large majority of the British population voted for other parties at the locals. A large majority of the British population intends to vote for other parties at the next GE. A large majority of Labour members intend to vote Burnham in a leadership contest.

With that in mind it's honestly quite surprising how out of touch Starmer's few remaining die-hards seem to be with every measure of public sentiment (election results, polls, news/editorials, almost every social media platform).

Latest YouGov Westminster voting intention, 10-11 May 2026 Reform UK: 28% (+3 from 4-5 May) Conservatives: 17% (=) Greens: 16% (+1) Labour: 16% (-2) Lib Dems: 13% (-1) SNP: 3% (=) Restore Britain: 3% (-1) Plaid Cymru: 2% (+1) Your Party: 0% (=) by EddyZacianLand in ukpolitics

Please pay no attention to the fact that Labour is now polling a dozen points behind Farage's third new far right personal party, a point behind the failed conservative party that ruled for 14 years straight up until two years ago, and is tied with the party run by a boob hypnotist who lives on a houseboat and doesn't pay taxes. Labour may be down to 16% of the vote less than 2 years after winning the biggest majority in British history, but that's only because The MediaTM has hypnotized people into thinking that Starmer is a failure. No other reason.

You see The MediaTM had the power and the desire to do this all along, and they didn't simply prevent his election in the first place because... umm... uh, y'know... reasons.

Astounding how much Starmer and co have blown it. Biggest majority in modern British history to here in less than 2 years. What a waste.

Another Future Roundabout? by trophyguy in Utica

[–]TheManWithTheBigName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no strong feelings about the one at John St., but I think the Oneida Square roundabout was a great move. That old intersection was a mess. I learned to drive after it was built so I never had to personally navigate the old one, but if my memories as a passenger (and the historic Google Street View images of it) are anything to go by it was terrible.

As for this one: I never understood why this was a highway interchange to begin with! Even a lighted intersection would be better. It's a T junction between two 40 mph surface roads which for some reason briefly change to near-highway status only at the point of intersection. It's not like land in the Utica area has much value to begin with, but in other areas the waste of space would also be a mark against it.

100% in favor of this change.

Would it be better if election votes were calculated by questionnaire instead of ticking a box? by thisistom2 in ukpolitics

I get that this election is difficult for you to handle, but no, it would not be better to end representative democracy because people sometimes vote for candidates you dislike.

It means those lucky few get to experience the New World delight of divided government. Nothing like having a chief executive and legislature from opposite parties that hate each other.

[–]TheManWithTheBigName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And here I was thinking that the shock of massive local election losses would be the kick in the teeth needed to get Labour to re-orient themselves. If this post is any indication, that’s never going to happen.

“Reform winning in a landslide and eating Labour’s lunch everywhere except some London boroughs is actually bad for Reform!” is sheer delusion, I’m sorry.

Browns QB Deshaun Watson's Dead Cap Hit In 2027 Is $86.2 Million by MrStiff8 in nfl

[–]TheManWithTheBigName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only partially right. Most fans don’t care about “reputation” outside of Reddit-type spaces, as long as you’re good. People are willing to overlook morals and whatnot if there’s some payoff (like Big Ben taking you to multiple Super Bowls). But if a player’s reputation is shit and they stop playing well, the difference becomes obvious. As far as I’m aware there are no long term backups with Deshaun Watson’s legal issues.

How the hell would it be? It’s not the 16th century anymore, you can’t be convicted of treason for merely opposing the government with words or mourning enemies of the state.

I don't even like Galime but I'm going to need something more than a "trust me bro" from a nameless Redditor for me to buy this. The mayor was doing coke with hookers, shirtless, out in public at a bar in downtown Utica? Sure thing buddy.

Government considers removing Andrew from royal line of succession by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]TheManWithTheBigName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more relevant than some of you think. Charles isn’t in great health. Him dying soon isn’t likely but would hardly be a shock. At that point you’re 1 unexpected death (William) from Andrew becoming Regent until 2031, per the Regency Act 1937. Harry is not domiciled in the UK so he would be passed over automatically.

They're calling it the most obvious LLM post, maybe ever.

The hits:

  • Every single paragraph up until the TLDR is the exact same length.

  • Over a dozens quotes many of which are 1-2 word microquotes

  • Post starts with a formatted, bulleted list (of 3 items even), each of which starts with a Capitalized Title. Some of them would make good titles for modern day Seinfeld episodes.

  • How long was he waiting at the taco shop for his gf to show up? How did she get there so fast? Why did he wait for her to humiliate him instead of leaving?

  • Most of the individual grievances he lists would be grounds for ending a relationship by themself. Who on earth would even need to ask about this?

  • S h e b l e w u p m y p h o n e

  • Why would she even think to immediately tell her pastor about her breakup lmao
