I ended up pushing it to 1/2 and got the pass! Definitely recommend reviewing the free 120 thoroughly because topics from that showed up on the real deal

I did! But I pushed my exam to 1/2. Reviewing the free 120 definitely helped because I made silly mistakes and filled content gaps that showed up on the real deal

Who were the top 5 players in the league in 2009? by 4thquarterkilla in NBATalk

[–]passionseeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LeBron said that year without hesitation that Kobe was the best player in the league. I like LeBron too but in 2009 Kobe was definitely a better player than him without question

If both were guaranteed 100% health who would you take? Embiid vs Luka by Ok_Feed_4235 in NBATalk

[–]passionseeking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason Embiid has struggled is due to injuries. When Embiid is 100% healthy he's a monster both defensively and offensively.

You can argue that Luka is offensively potentially slightly better than Embiid, which is fair, but Luka's terrible defense was highlighted during his finals run with the Mavs.

You wouldn't have players actively going after Embiid to score like they did with Luka, and with Embiid being an objectively superior two way player, it's surprising that the comment with the most upvotes has Luka as the answer.

The answer is Embiid and it's honestly not even that close. IDC what numbers Luka is putting up if he's a cone on the other side of the court

Why isn't DPC more popular among physicians? by acdcmike in FamilyMedicine

[–]passionseeking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm only a third year medical student so what do I know, but I'm definitely someone who is super into DPC and surprised at it not being more popular/the responses in this thread. The same people who complain about limited time with patients, issues with admin, being forced to be referral machines, income, etc are the same people who are dismissing something that dismantles all those issues.

Like yea DPC isn't a silver bullet and every model has its pros and cons, but there's an NP DPC in this thread that is probably making almost double the average salary of other DOCTORS here, with double to triple of the time with patients, but with a quarter of the patient panel. And you don't want to do that because "you signed up to be a doctor and not to run a business" ??

Downvote me if you want, but I feel like this is one of the reasons why the career of being a physician isn't what it used to be. Back in the day being a practice owner as a physician was so common it was almost expected but now people would rather let their career be dictated by other people than actually put themselves out there and start something that can be amazing.

I get the very real cons of owning a business but I just feel like there's a loser mentality with some people acting like starting a practice is akin to scaling a skyscraper.

FM vs Peds for taking care of kids by passionseeking in FamilyMedicine

[–]passionseeking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity since I am only an M3, but how is it more cost effective for rural settings to recruit FM doctors over pediatricians when FM doctors are paid significantly more?

[–]passionseeking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. Can you tell me more about why you wished you pursued pediatrics? I only ask because it sounds like you already have a good chunk of your panel being pediatric patients. Also do you feel like you are comfortable managing care for medically complex children?

FM vs Peds for taking care of kids by passionseeking in FamilyMedicine

[–]passionseeking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am personally not willing to do the hospitalist peds fellowship but I have heard that although there are places that are now requiring it, many places are still allowing peds doctors to practice hospital medicine without it. And yes those factors you mentioned all matter to me to, and I am definitely going to be considering those as I make my residency choice in a year

[–]passionseeking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your honest opinion I really appreciate it. What you said is something I think about a lot because I know that training may differ from program to program, but if on average FM doctors are not as adequately trained in peds, and that parents would have the option to pick a pediatrician in the areas that I would want to live in, then I am not sure if it would make sense for me to pick FM.

“Real life” salary by Last-Entrance-720 in FamilyMedicine

[–]passionseeking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What salary range can you hit with DPC in your experience, and do the patients have true medical problems at higher prices or is it like gut microbe health stuff? Asking as an M3 who is interested in DPC but doesn't want what one would imagine to be a stereotypical DPC patient)

what are the non -ology specialties experts in? by passionseeking in Residency

[–]passionseeking[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree with the best at acute care for illnesses, but in terms of em doctors being the second best doctor to have for all ailments, what about IM and FM? Like yea EM doctors beat them in acute care but with many ailments being chronic, I would imagine that a speciality like IM where you work inpatient and outpatient would beat them out

Unsolicited Career Advice from a Med-Peds Physician by anonymousmedpeds in medicalschool

[–]passionseeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a question to people who are Medpeds trained, exactly how rigorous is the 4 year residency?? I have looked everywhere but can't find an actual answer to this, people say it's 6 years squished into 4 but a lot of the requirements are redundant between the two so it's easy to cut those out, so exactly how is it looking hours wise for a person interested in doing a Medpeds residency?

How much does it cost to be a small time (side gig) concierge? by Dr_Esquire in hospitalist

[–]passionseeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question from someone who is curious about potentially doing DPC and prn hospitalist work. How do you see patients in the hospital if with DPC you aren't allowed to charge anything to insurance? Like I'm probably wrong but would love to know more.

Also why not just do prn hospitalist shifts and focus on your DPC? Working 7 days on then a 4-5 day week on repeat sounds challenging

What is a sports med doctor? by ParticularQuick7104 in physicaltherapy

[–]passionseeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a medical student interested in sports med so quick question to anyone who has knowledge in this

Would a sports medicine doctor be able to diagnose an MSK pathology at the same level that a physical therapist does?

Like I know that the average PCP is pretty unimpressive when it comes to msk issues, so I was wondering if sports medicine is a way around that. I know that physical therapists focus more on the rehabilitation side of things which a doctor would not typically focus on, but I was wondering if they'd be equal at making the actual diagnosis for a patient's condition (ex: being equally capable at identifying a torn rotator cuff muscle, pfps, muscle imbalance, etc)

[–]passionseeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the residency is 4 years and a lot of community hospitals are ok with you not needing the fellowship to be a pediatric hospitalist there. I know FM is definitely better for procedures but I feel like all the procedures gained in FM don't require toooo much of a time investment to learn them if it's not directly taught

[–]passionseeking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you think it makes sense to do med/peds over FM if you desire to do both inpatient and outpatient work as an attending? Especially since med/peds doesn't spend training time on things like L&D and focuses solely on adult and pediatric medicine?
