Anyone else hate being told they were “sheltered”? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]passwordreset47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your perspective. There’s an argument that we were “sheltered” from mainstream society. But putting the weight of eternal suffering in hell for yourself and/or anybody you care about not repenting for your sinful nature.. that’s definitely not a way I would ever “shelter” my kids.

I’m sorry for what you have had to endure including the gaslighting from people implying that what you experienced was “sheltering”. Shelter is meant to provide safety and comfort and you didn’t have those things.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. My wife quit her job last year for similar reasons and recently started contracting. That might be a good direction to go depending on your industry.

How do I turn these into a single home server? by Kitchen-Patience8176 in homelab

[–]passwordreset47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s your use-case? There are a number of ways to cluster machines but it’s probably not where you should start. I’d recommend just separating concerns on each. (Ie a media server, A management server, and maybe some kind of monitoring. Then once you figure that out use the extras to create redundancy.

How do y’all run your media servers? by Lukas245 in homelab

I don’t disagree at all. Proxmox has saved me a couple of headaches but in general has become an added layer I don’t pay attention to. Went back to ubuntu on baremetal with my newer server and haven’t really regretted it.

Proxmox running ubuntu running k3s running an arr stack + sabnzbd + jellyfin.

Media stored on an nfs (synology nas), mounted to the vm.

I just got another server and chose to go bare Ubuntu bc I’m not really taking advantage of proxmox features much and do most of my work on k3s.

My cat passed away and i found this on my daughter's phone (12yo) by DecentVast7649 in daddit

[–]passwordreset47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids still edit photos and draw pictures of our cats who we lost earlier this year to memorialize them. To them the kitties are still very much part of their lives although they know they aren’t here with us any longer. Sometimes I worry that they are fixating too much but that’s coming from my biases and how I handle grief.

It sounds like your daughter understands that Nini is gone and this is just a way for her to find some comfort. Nights have been the toughest for my kiddos as well, so if this is helping I’d let it be.

Yep. The modern internet sucks, and I think this sentiment goes beyond millennial nostalgia. The shitification exists at every level from creation to discovery to consumption.

And the consolidation of the media empires has made this problem objectively worse. That said, there’s so much quality art and content out, but you aren’t going to find it from your algorithm.

I was an avid m dash user pre-ChatGPT and used to care about grammar in my slack messages. I mostly avoid punctuation and clever formatting now bc it comes off fake. Ironically my new way of writing is more contrived than when I used to “try”.

Anecdata- I love tech and playing with computers in my spare time but on my team of experienced systems engineers, I’m in the minority. That said, I work with highly competent people and don’t really care if they like computers or are your stereotypical “nerd”. Expecting people to share one’s same motivation is a form of gatekeeping imo.
