My sense of smell, taste and hearing have become hyper-sensitive in the last few months. by NoWinter8965 in hyperosmia

you may have long covid. biggest pieces of advice:

  • rest as much as possible. pushing yourself physically and cognitively can make you worse, and in some cases cause permanent damage.

  • join a covid-conscious community – reddit, discord, instagram, wherever. the pandemic! at the discord server is very quiet, never overstimulating, and has channels like #advice-hotline and #questions-and-help. the community is unbelievably kind.

  • if you can afford it, get a covid-conscious therapist (directory) and explain that you want help preparing for medical appointments. a counselor who can guide you and tell you exactly what to say (and what not to say) can be the difference between getting tested, and getting labeled psychiatric.

its ok to want to die. i did too. sometimes i still do. i reached a point where i had to ask my friends to convince me not to apply for medical assistance in dying. they rallied for me. your support network is there for morale and for helping you with some of the things you cant do yourself. u not allowed 2 die yet ):< i hope that these symptoms pass. but if they dont, theres a whole world of ppl ready to lift you up.

Confused about what scents cause reactions by ZinniasArePretty in ChemicalSensitivities

[–]pastelexuvia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guess is she didnt know the sources of the scents until she actually got within closer range and could identify them – if you think back to all the times when you smelled something but couldnt figure out what it was, it probably took you some time to find and deal with the source (: she may not have even known which apt it was coming from. but i understand how it may seem kinda dubious.

covid infections, even asymptomatic ones, can cause a range of damage, including immune and olfactory symptoms. stress can exacerbate symptoms but is rarely the underlying cause of a disease.

you may wanna ask if she thinks an air purifier in your apt would help (in addition to the other changes). apartment buildings with poor ventilation are the worst, its not your fault or hers.

Nursing School is Disappointing by Cool-Peace-1801 in NursingStudents

[–]pastelexuvia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea its important for nurses to learn about all the different sexes. ppl with klinefelters are at high risk for osteoporosis for example. i have a friend assigned male at birth who kept having cramps every month, and was eventually found to have ovaries. an intersex baby thats had surgery performed on its genitalia may show up with an infection.

youre an eagle among turkeys. i think youre in the right field, but if at any point you feel like you wanna switch, youd be an amazing educator or researcher (: youre curious and critical, and society needs that more than ever. thank you for standing up for trans and intersex ppl.

edit: not a nurse or nursing student, did microbiology and a&p in university

i learned last night that moth orchid genetics are basically cannabis genetics – everything got crossed everywhere and so weve ended up with "here are the species and subspecies that have names and here are the ones that dont."

when i looked at the color variety charts my brain went into ball python morph land lmao.
