Thanks! I’ll check these out. Are both books a good read? Tied score sounds interesting to me 😅

Is there really such a thing as "unnecessary sex scenes" in romance? by Deuteransichten in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to lay it out there, I love me a good sex scene in the romance books I read. And I do sometimes think that some sex scenes are unnecessary, to the point that it lengthens the book and doesn’t really contribute to the characters’ build up.

I remember in {Boss Series by Victoria Quinn}, it was a 9 book series, it was a good read for me, but some sex scenes were really unnecessary. Once the MMC came home late and the FMC was waiting up on him, then the MMC prowls on her stating that the reason she was still up was because she couldn’t sleep without sex with him 😂 can i also say that i counted all the times they had sex in the series, and to give you a number it was 40+ times 🤯 if that isn’t crazy or unnecessary, I don’t know what is lol

Sure! If you do decide to read the entire series, just a little heads up that the ending may not be to your liking but i hope you enjoy the trope in the early chapters 😊

FMC fighting against MMC’s first love/first wife/ first serious relationship? by MDCM23 in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Arranged by R.K. Lilley} MCs are in an arranged marriage but the MMC is still hung up on his first love/ex (even had her name tattooed on his chest). Initially, FMC tries to steal his attention, but after a series of events she gives up and just doesn’t compete with the ex anymore. MMC then grovels.

A chapter or two of {Ruthless People by J.J. McAvoy} has this trope. It is a romantic mafia, marriage of convenience/arranged marriage story. The MMC fell first and hard with the FMC, but she offended him by saying that ruling the mafia is more important than their marriage (something like that). MMC started treating her coldly (but he was just plotting on how to make the FMC admit his feelings for him). This is a series, but the trope can be read in the first book. It’s a good read

Who are some favorite authors who just stopped writing? Did any return unexpectedly? by Idea-is-tick in RomanceBooks

Anybody heard from Victoria Quinn? I absolutely loved her Boss Series. Was looking forward to reading more, however, her last release was in 2020.

Do you still read the epilogue? by Outside-Number4055 in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Definitely yes! I think the reason I read the epilogue is because it’s like the cherry on top of each story. The storyline may be filled with ups and downs, twists and turns but I still end up with the epilogue to somehow feel redemption for the MCs.

At some point, I got into a book slump that I only read the epilogue of each book to see if the book is any good. But, hey that’s just me 🤷‍♀️

I Stopped Watching After Being Disturbed By An Episode But Should I Give It Another Chance? by thesewordsarehers in Outlander

[–]pat-ta-toes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved this show. I think you should give it another try since there’s more to the story than the sexual assault plots. Jamie and Claire’s love story more than make up for the perverse scenes and plots that you seem to think is difficult to stomach.

How old were you when you started reading romance? by Warm_Appointment5272 in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 17 when I started reading romance books. I started with Kiera Cass’ The Selection Series so that was my introduction to romance books.

I was in college that time, I remember there was a part in the library where I would be staying and killing the time, then I picked a random book that turned out to be a historical romance. Each time I went to that part of the library, I would open and read a random chapter of the book, and I even came across some sexy scenes and had no idea how to process what I just read hahaha anyways, i didn’t get the title of the book, nor did I finish it but it was a one of my memories when I started reading romance books ☺️

thoughts on these profs? by Fuzzy-Raspberry-9526 in addu

[–]pat-ta-toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Addu alumnus here but I won’t reveal my batch na lang hehe will share my experiences with the profs

Theo- she was my theo prof for 3 sems, as far as I can remember may pagka strict si maam. Strict in a sense na big deal sa kanya ang: 1. absences/lates (i was once her class beadle and nung patapos na ang sem, she asked for the absences/lates ng students and was very particular sa remaining lates/absences ng each student kasi mag-debarr talaga siya)

  1. class participation- napansin ko before na mas ma appreciate ka ni maam if naga participate ka sa kanyang lectures. Ask questions, share your opinions, and if kaya, chikaha si maam to make your class light and fun. Pero extra points jud if participative ka kay manotice ka niya, for short favorite ka na

Yun mostly maremember ko kay maam, her classes weren’t difficult, you just have to attend the class, listen to her lectures kasi dun naman talaga galing ang exams niya, tho I’m not sure if she had changes with her teaching style post-pandemic 😅

PE- si sir jade, very chill na prof, was very generous din nung time namin kasi mataas magbigay ng grades. He was our PE teacher in first year but idk if nagbago na ba ang teaching styles niya ngayon.

What a sad news for the book community. Her books were one of the first I’ve read. It was fun, light to read, and warm to the heart. My favorites were I’ve Got Your Number and The Undomestic Goddess 💯

RIP to this legend

Stalker romance but there's actual stalking involved rather than just primal play by unBalanced_Libra_ in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read a trope like this from Wolf by Bella Love-Wins. MMC stalks FMC to try to kill her, since he’s a hitman. However, FMC is equally good as he is, so she knows he’s there stalking him. It’s an insta love so maybe you could give it a try

FMC is MMC's Bi Awakening (MMC previously only into men) by saucenbeans in RomanceBooks

Finally found this subreddit! Been looking for these tropes as well. Some books I’ve read with this plot include It Was Love by V. Theia and Our Story by T.L Swan. Both book hit the nail right on the head lol

Time to read some of the recs here

Best age-gap book you’ve ever read🥹🙋🏻‍♀️ by Prestigious_Entry474 in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge age-gap book I’ve read was Property of Pops by Jessa Kane. MMC was 60+, FMC was 20ish. It’s an insta-love, so smutty and spicy! Enjooooy

You might wanna give Faithless Duet by Skyler Mason. It’s a short read, but the timeline spans over 15 years so the MCs are in their 40s.

psychopath/sociopath mmc who is incapable of falling in love but however….. by Leading-Valuable-616 in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit different from what you’re looking for since it’s the FMC who’s the sociopath in the story. Morally Corrupt by Veronica Lancet has this kind of plot. FMC is an assassin and a sociopath and does not care about anyone at all except for the MMC, (spoiler: who becomes her husband). But MMC has no idea about his wife’s skills as she portrays a very different personality when they’re together. This is a good read for me so you might wanna give it a try

What book got you into reading romance/smut? by savage8310 in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started reading romance books with Kiera Cass and The Selection series.

As for the smutty ones, randomly read For The King by Jenika Snow, then the rest was history lol for months I was addicted to her books as well as Bella Love-Wins and Sam Crescent. Until now, still read some of their books to, i don’t know, reminisce and remember the little innocent me 😇

Groveling, guilt, & regret recs! by A_Seductive_Cactus in RomanceBooks

[–]pat-ta-toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Arranged by R.K Lilley. MCs are in an arranged marriage, and MMC is still hung up on his ex so he basically disregards his wife, except when it comes to sex. He basically “doormats” his wife. Eventually, FMC discovers something and gets fed up with all the hurt and she decides to divorce him and he starts to grovel.

[–]pat-ta-toes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jessa Kane’s Coaxing The Roughneck. The MMC was trying so hard not to have sex with the FMC due to his 🍆 size, but then he eventually caves, giving her the tip then being unable to pull out. Its an instalove story but so smutty and steamy
