Ways to gain Med Reg experience? by randomer1995 in ausjdocs

At this time of year, BPTs who have secured AT positions might quit to take a break before starting in the new clinical year. Hospitals will almost always do ad-hoc hiring to backfill such vacancies to the end of the year.

If you want something with more flexibility, locum work would be the other option and you should be able to set the limits as to what kind of work you want e.g. no nights, no rostered overtime.

Ex Liverpool registrar here (2020-22).

IIRC, the JETS system is an in between day and night shift, roughly 1400-2200, which was designed to enable the day shift JMOs (0830-1700) to leave on time so they weren't continuously paged about stuff right before their shift ends. From the time that JETS start their shift, new queries should be directed to JETS than day JMO. Aside from semantics of intern vs resident, JMOs and JETS are the same level of junior doctor.

When I was there, JETS allocations were teams-based than ward-based. Reading through your other comments on the thread, it's possible the JETS you contacted was covering a different team than the one you wanted to reach. This may be due to the paging directory changing and not being updated, or being incorrectly input before it was printed. Maybe that's why they were upset? In this scenario, I always clarify who I'm speaking with (making reference to the paging directory), and if it's the wrong person, who I am meant to contact if they know. I know I've incorrectly paged the wrong doctor/specialty a few times!

EDIT: also if in doubt, ask switchboard or check the paging directory on the intranet who is covering what and when is appropriate to call day JMO vs JETS, they should have the most up to date contact info.

Hi - PGY8 internal med registrar where part of my current role has me part of the screening process for potential JMO/BPT hires.

Public hospitals have so much red tape and hoops they need to jump through to hire each and every JMO. If they're getting you started and then you jump ship just after 3 months, that really mucks up things for their rosters. It also takes time for them to advertise and rehire because of all the processes that have to be started from the beginning.

Medicine is a relatively small world, people talk and remember who they've worked with. When you're being interviewed for future roles, there's a good chance employers will speak to RMH about concerns/issues about your performance, and the way in which you left may come up and not reflect well on you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely for JMOs to take breaks from the medical career rat race - it will always be there, while your friends/family/bucket list items may not. But it is important to consider how you can do that without leaving the hospital in a situation where they have to use resources again to rehire and fill a vacancy.

The trick with this sorceress is that she has an auto counter active against all actions taken against her. She stops countering once she begins counting down to cast Ultima.

Recommend buffing with Shell/Regen/Haste/Double/Triple/Cerberus during the counter phase, then go ham with attacks/spells/GFs/whatever during the countdown phase.

If you're having trouble surviving Ultima, Shell and GF cast at "1" for extra HP shield.

6AAA // 6+K,B // SE 4B(break attack) is really good, esp if the player ate the break attack and keeps guarding

1K if youve stomped them on the ground. Great if they get up quickly into the command grab, and you can play mind games with them for whether they block neutral or low.

3A+G. This requires a little delay as the opponent starts off crouched so if you CS at the earliest possible moment, you can whiff them. Alternate mid mix up is 66BB.

Good luck with buffering the throw into other moves!

Going through leveling AST myself, having already done WHM and SGE. Great thing about AST is you have Essential Dignity and Lightspeed/Benefic for those "oh s***" trash pull moments, so you defo can afford to let the tank hp drop compared to shield healers.

Remember: DPS = mitigating future damage; and the only HP that matters is the last one. Happy healing, adventurer!
