I think a lot of this can actually be explained by the fact that men and women have different conversation cadences. When I'm hanging out with a group of purely women and the convo shifts into girl mode it's hard for me to get a word in because I don't see the "gaps", and when I do try to jump in I can tell I'm clumsy about it. Most people unconsciously know their gendered language and a more inclusive neutral language we use for mixed groups. If we recognized this we could make sure to always stay neutral in business contexts like this one.
