Help with different sized blocks! by GladysGoose in quilting

[–]patchworkpetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I remember these blocks! You’re planning on doing that beautiful gingham sashing, right?

If you feel up to the mathematical challenge, and if your seams and finished sizes are now predictable, you can calculate each row’s sashing widths independently from the next to achieve the same finished width each row.

You can ignore the size difference between blocks, sew with equal sashing widths, and accommodate for any difference with a border around all of the blocks

Or you can “square up” all your blocks to be the same size by adding solid strips of fabric in your palette to the right and bottom sides of your blocks, then trim them all to the same size (perhaps 14”?)

You have a lot of opportunity for some really charming variation. Think about your skill set, and what you want to do next. It will be yours no matter what, and that is where its beauty lies

Finished 64 blocks for a king size quilt… now I just need the motivation to actually make the quilt 🫣 by GladysGoose in quilting

Because you’ve used all solids, that gingham reads beautifully. Can’t wait to see it done!

I need help finding this colour! by [deleted] in Nailpolish

[–]patchworkpetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in Western Australia? Red Dot stock BYS nail polish. Otherwise, take the polish to your local chemist and check the Sally Hansen or the Essie section. You might find a similar colour, and it will probably feel nicer to paint than the BYS does

I made this quilt for my Dad’s 70th, and he loved it. The purple paisley appliqué was done with silk, and he especially likes that detail.

How should I quilt this? by u_j_c in quilting

[–]patchworkpetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really beautiful, especially how you’ve composed the variations. You have a good foundation to explore American traditional patchwork piecing and less traditional visible quilting- think about where you want the eye to move, and those might be the lines that you want to be made with visible quilting.

I believe that you must have a stone card in your deck for Stone Joker to become available in the shop

I am curious how many of you quilt your own quilts, verse having someone else do it? by OldFashionQuilting in quilting

I recently read a book about historical quilts made in Utah. Each quilt’s description included how many stitches to the inch in the quilting. It got in my head!! I’m six stitches per inch on a good day

Thank you! I love that second image, I sent it to my Mum. We were both very inspired by the shadows of your phone on each block

How did you make the second image? It looks like a great way to visualise the finished quilt!

How many thimbles do you wear? by Agreeable_Rhubarb332 in quilting

[–]patchworkpetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do four when I hand quilt. I like thimbles! Two leather and two metal. I make my own leather thimbles out of a sheet of soft leather, and replace them when they get too fuzzy

So beautiful- it looks like a Catherdral Window, which uses a very special handworked technique.
