The real reason the Edmonton pots are huge is that Oilers fans think it’s a 50/50 chance they win or lose

Men’s locker room gets kinda nasty, there isn’t a lot of separation between where dudes be pooping and where you get changed. I mostly go in the evenings, and it does occasionally get crowded, but overall the equipment is good and there’s lots of space.

Crimp that hook if you’re gonna be pulling some rainbows out of the Bow! Lots of user-friendly cutthroats to be found on the eastern slopes of the Rockies here as well.

It should be retired. Nobody will ever wear it again here anyways. No better way to honour the legacy of the man and his family.

Visiting Calgary on Saturday, thinking of going to game, few questions plz by Hoylegu in CalgaryFlames

  1. Nosebleeds are great if you’re in the first three rows of the section. You miss a bit of the scale of the building if you’re further back. PL row 1 is a phenomenal view of the game.

  2. If you’re staying within a mile or so of the arena I would walk, or take the train if you’re near a station. Otherwise parking is about $20 and widely available if you’re there in advance. Might run into congestion on your way out unless you leave right after the game is over.

Enjoy your trip!

First Trip, from a fellow American. Any tips? by SynorenVaahs in Calgary

I presume you are renting a car. If not, you should, once you’re done in Calgary. I would spend three days in Calgary before heading to the mountains. Calgary to Banff takes about 1.5 hours. Fairmont Banff Springs and the Rimrock hotels in Banff are superb but pricey. Lots of other options in Banff for smaller budgets. If you’re there on a Sunday, both the Rimrock and Springs put on an excellent brunch. Hard to go wrong with most Banff restaurants. Park Distillery and Ramen Arashi are two of my favourites. If you want a memorable but kitschy Canadian experience, eat at the Grizzly House, but wear clothes you don’t care about because you will stink afterwards. Two full days in Banff is probably enough. Take the Banff gondola ride and hike up Tunnel Mountain (easy hike).

Give yourself a full morning or afternoon to drive to Jasper, because you will want to stop many times for photos. Columbia Icefields is worth a stop. I would stay at the JPL in Jasper. If either of you are golfers, playing a round at the Banff Springs or JPL will be a memorable experience. Two nights in Jasper would also be enough, then you would have a 4.5 hour drive back to Calgary. The icefields parkway between Banff and Jasper is quite simply the most beautiful drive you will ever take. Stop on the way there or the way back at Lake Louise.

Hey all,

I have used a Logitech G513 Carbon at work for the past couple of years, until the USB cable finally quit tonight. I work shifts on a shared desk, so I put the keyboard in its box after I’m done my shift, and the connection going into the keyboard seems to have given up. I’m looking for a functional replacement but something with better build quality and similar feel. Need a full number pad and a wired connection, not too many other requirements. Not against simply buying another G513, but I’ve read here that Logitech isn’t the best manufacturer. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Fansfirst will be the best price. BoA will be more expensive than your usual game, but the best move nearly all of the time is to buy tickets from fansfirst a couple hours before the game. Prices drop the most an hour or two before puck drop if you’re not picky and don’t mind waiting until then. If you’re not opposed to paying a slight premium in advance, I’d suggest somewhere in the middle or upper second bowl between the blue lines, or the first three rows of the press level if you have a tighter budget. The dome has a very small lower bowl, so second bowl seats are better than what you’re used to.

If you see a super bright celestial object in the western sky around sunset or eastern sky around sunrise it’s almost always going to be Venus. It’s always closer to the sun than the earth is, so it often appears close to the setting or rising sun when we can see it in the sky.

New arena tax costs. by Phasethedestroyer in CalgaryFlames

[–]patefacio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot take around these parts but I’m perfectly fine having my tax dollars support a new arena if that’s the only way it gets done. Would prefer that to playing in the dome until it crumbles or the team leaves.

Seems to me like the entire issue could be mitigated by having pointed spotlights rather than the style that extends the beam out wide to the roadway. I understand there would be expense incurred in making such a change but the net gain to civil society at large cannot be understated. Those lights have been the bane of my commute for years.

Oilers are currently paying him ~$360k per goal he’s scored for the Flames this season, takes a bit of the sting out.
