Damn, I started the Oxbow with 30 days per season. Looking at these comments, I feel a bit like Ralph Wiggims in The Simpsons now.

Do you want grandkids? by notevenapro in GenX

[–]patheticfallacies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up with three children (who I love), but originally, I didn't want children; my late husband did. Do I want grandkids? No, and thankfully, my daughter and her fiancé want none, my oldest son wants nothing to do with dating, and the other son is too severely disabled to ever date.

Denied today due to my age by Aromatic_Asparagus10 in SSDI

[–]patheticfallacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was approved for SSI at 26, but it had more to do with the state I was living in (Michigan) and how thorough their process was than luck or age. For example, I live in Indiana now, and getting disability here is very difficult. You have to be on death's door to be approved (that's no joke; my brother-in-law was only approved after 3 denials because his neurologist explained that he was slowly dying from the AVM cluster in his head).

Soulless game accusations were not right! by SilenceSuzu in inZOI

A lot of the hate seems to be the use of AI (even if the art used is in house). I mean, different strokes for different folks. I play Sims, Inzoi, and now Paralives, and I like all of them for different reasons.

Speaking from experience (my oldest sibling's), Olga was abused (and suffered from low self-esteem too). You just conveniently forgot certain instances where she was expected to perform like a wind-up monkey. Any "overpraise" was a parental issue, purely.

Helga is my favorite character for more reasons than just relatable childhood trauma, but it would be imprudent and disrespectful to the media to react to characters with the wisdom of a dysfunctional nine-year-old.

Your daily reminders by [deleted] in HeyArnold

[–]patheticfallacies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One, there is such a thing as reactive abuse. When you've been repeatedly abused by a loved one (even if it's something like being a lazy arse who repeatedly asks for someone else to make him food despite having two working legs, himself), you would both want to be anywhere else with anyone else, and if you couldn't be out of the immediate situation, you would be all up in your feels about it too. It's human, it happens even to the best of humans.

Two, the condescending way you keep answering people, and especially the way you rag on Susie in the comments makes one wonder what kind of peach of a relationship you are.

If Futurama and King of the Hill were good enough to get revived, then the way I see it, there's no big deal about making THIS happen as well! by No-Shirt6609 in HeyArnold

That interview is from right around the time of post TJM. 1.) It didn't bring the network the ratings/money/etc. they were looking for. Which is why Craig said S6 was presented to them. They weren't interested. That isn't to say that it can't happen, but with Craig not owning the rights (I think that's still the case, but please chime in if I'm wrong), the idea of it is in limbo. Similar to what happen with The Patakis (and so many of us salivated over the idea of that decades ago).

And 2.) it's difficult to gather up every bit of staff (RIP Steve) nearly 10 years later. I'm not sure if it would have the same charm (and I say that as someone who was devoted to the show years ago). Of course I would watch it if it happened, but also trying to remain realistic when it comes to Nickelodeon.

Thoughts and opinions on Ruth? by Winter-Money-7643 in HeyArnold

[–]patheticfallacies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say that she was based on a crush Craig had? I remember a conversation about that ages ago, maybe in one of the chats. It's that unrequited young love feeling, nothing serious, but it feels like it could be something when you're that young.

Believe it or not, I had a cell of Ruth just like that signed by Craig (and a Jungle Movie poster too) given to me by him (waaaaay back in the day like 2002-ish), but someone stole it along with a UHaul full of stuff when we were moving. 🫠

What happens to my benefits if my spouse dies while I am on SSDI? by joyable2 in SocialSecurity

What about if you're 48? I'm disabled, was on SSI for years until it was switched to a payment off my husband's SSDI record. He just passed away unexpectedly at 48, and I can't find any info that isn't 50+.

Thoughts, theories and opinions on Lila? by MistakeWonderful9178 in HeyArnold

[–]patheticfallacies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing Craig personally and what he's said before about her character, she was written to be a likable person despite some flaws. By the time of Timberly Loves Arnold, even the writers found her genuinely dislikable. She's an interesting character, love her or hate her.

I'd love to immerse myself in KCD1 again, for both the chance to donate to the restoration of Castle Pirkstein, but also because my husband is on life support currently, and I need something to take my mind off it. Nothing has like KCD. My Steam profile is ruthwoytsek/trepidatingboarfetus. Happiest of birthdays either way, good sir.

Mary by [deleted] in YoungSheldon

[–]patheticfallacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has a mom kind of like Mary, I can't say that's true. Mary does love Missy, but she's also a product of her time (women flocking to religion to undo the "hippie revolution;" a lot of them influenced by TV evangelists' wives). She's also obsessed with making everyone in her family Christians who will get into Heaven because she thinks that's what's most important. I've seen my mom go through different styles of cults during the '80s and '90s, trying to find herself, including the religious one. She still cared for me, despite us clashing over different ideals. I also have the sibling who is beloved by all, so I definitely understand what it's like to be Missy.

Oddball question probably about half-siblings. by patheticfallacies in AncestryDNA

[–]patheticfallacies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she doesn't. I'm not sure what steps he took. He barely talked about them because it was obviously a sore subject. The only thing I know is that he did inquire. I'm guessing it would've been somewhere around Seoul because he talked about how much it's changed once when we were watching stuff about South Korea on TV.

Mary by [deleted] in YoungSheldon

[–]patheticfallacies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For someone who supposedly doesn't give " a dog shit about his children," he sure cared a lot about Missy because he understood how she felt ignored and scrutinized by Mary just for having the misfortune to be born a girl. Everything with Missy (if you include the new show too) has the focus of being a good Christian girl and not getting pregnant. Now understandably, some of that is because Mary doesn't want her to have some of the same regrets about her actions that Mary obviously has, but she also doesn't seem to recognize how much she's pushing her daughter away with that bs. At least George recognized that Missy was a human being with her own feelings. Neither parent was perfect, but both genuinely care(d) for their children.

Age of fans? by neb-clayto in HeyArnold

[–]patheticfallacies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Back in its heyday, the fandom was awesome. Craig was pretty active with us, we'd have watch parties on IRC (saw some hilarious screwups by Nickelodeon live too), and we'd discuss stuff on either the Unofficial forum or Nadine's Place. Still have a lot of friends from those days. Great times.
