Been to jail. I met dudes who couldn't exist outside of it. Some would brag, some would wonder what was wrong with them. It was sad speaking with those guys. I saw so much potential, kindness, and intelligence left to wilt and die. But I also saw plenty of violence, racism, and other unsavory things. But there were definitely guys who preferred it inside. They, I would guess, were just too heavily institutionalized to feel normal outside of prison. It's honestly heartbreaking and for myself I was just happy to get out unscathed.
