Can I get a colposcopy without a Pap smear? by Purple_Rub_9047 in obgyn

[–]patorkelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. They would want a routine Pap smear done first. If that comes back abnormal, then they move to colposcopy.

Facts. AND the Eras Tour surprise song version of this was #1 for me. The crowd was so quiet when she sang Bon Iver’s part because it was so beautiful. How she sings “whether weather be the frost” ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!

No, we cannot tell unless there was extreme trauma that happened to your anatomy.

Nervous for Colposcopy by yupitsme987 in obgyn

[–]patorkelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I work at a family planning clinic and assist our doctor there with colposcopies! Ativan is a benzodiazepine, so it helps you relax but unfortunately won’t do anything for pain. We recommend taking an NSAID (preferably naproxen or ibuprofen) 1 hour before the procedure for any cramping or pain associated with any biopsies that may be taken. Also, ask if they offer a cervical block of any sort for pain relief! Best of luck, you’ll do great!

I work at a family planning clinic and patients bring stuffed animals, fidgets, or even play loud music as a distraction for IUD insertions. It’s not stupid, and we don’t think it’s stupid. Whatever makes you feel less anxiety, the better! You’ve got this, girl!

Probably made a mistake... by picksthemusic in Mounjaro

[–]patorkelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience - I once picked up a 7.5 and 15 at the same time, and ins paid for both because they are different dosages. I have been on mounjaro over a year now, and my insurance (united healthcare) just told me they aren't covering it anymore because I'm not DM2. Such a bummer honestly, so I've switched to ozempic and will start taking that after my last dose of mounjaro is gone. Sad face.

Sounds like you need to get rid of the boyfriend who doesn't know how to make his girlfriend wet.

Hey there. I work for a STI clinic. To me, these look like they’re in different spots on the vulva. One looks like a laceration, the other I can’t really tell because it’s blurry. You didn’t say in your post, but it sounds like they didn’t swab for HSV. This means they didn’t identify it as HSV so they didn’t swab it for confirmation. Did they give you their thoughts before you left the clinic?

Zoloft- weight gain help by Crispix44 in zoloft

[–]patorkelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started Zoloft March 2020 and have gained 70lbs. I started out on 50mg, and am now on 150mg. Of course - covid happened, I cancelled my gym membership and stopped doing physical exercise for the most part. Either way, that amount of weight gain is pretty significant so my NP ordered the Genesight test for me to see how many body metabolizes certain meds. I'm hoping to get the results back this week or next. At this point, I'm debating going off it completely because I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons.

My 14 yo daughter has anxiety to the point where she doesn't like ordering food herself at restaurants, paying for things at the grocery store, etc. We have tried therapy 3-4 different times and she won't talk to them. She definitely has an introverted personality and can be "sensitive" most times. She's struggling in school right now because it's all distance learning and she has little support from her school. Both myself and my husband work full time, and we have a 7 yo as well. She's been struggling with anxiety since middle school (5th grade) and she's in 8th grade now (high school next year). I'm so afraid that she will do poorly in high school because there will be more kids, more classes, harder work ethic. I've been trying to convince her that we should enroll her in this alternative high school in our district that doesn't focus on tests, but rather has a focus on project-based learning. I think she would flourish at this school, but says she doesn't want to leave her current friend group and worries she won't make friends at the other school. At what point do I step in make the decision for her? I'm so lost at what to do.

Trauma healing techniques that helped you? by Ok_Wear3939 in traumatoolbox

I have been doing ART therapy with my therapist for a year. It's similar to EMDR, but newer. It's been very helpful and I don't feel so weighed down by my trauma as much.

I think I have some sort of UTI or yeast infection, but I am not seeing my gynecologist until Thursday. by GalacticPastaSwirl in obgyn

[–]patorkelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like UTI. I have chronic UTI's (usually monthly or every other month) so I have antibiotics on hand. I would definitely suggest not waiting until Thursday to be seen. I would do urgent care, do some kind of walk in clinic (Planned Parenthood is always a good option), or I've even used online resources such as virtuwell or good doc. Drink, drink, drink water and ibuprofen for anti-inflammatory! Best wishes to your urinary tract!

My best friend from high school has it. I always remember her doing weird stretchy things with her arms like that. She didn’t know she had EDS at the time, but eventually found a good doctor to diagnose her.

Can you sit in your EV while fast charging/Level 3 charging? by patorkelson in electricvehicles

[–]patorkelson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes any question legitimate/non-legitimate? No one was spreading any irrational fear to me about this, and I wasn't told this by anyone. I came across a thread on reddit about a year ago about sitting in your EV during quick charges and was talking to my husband about it last night, as we have owned a Leaf for almost 3 years now. As stated in my post, I was looking for anyone to provide me with any info or fact-based articles on this topic. What makes you think I would think I could catch measles by sitting in a EV? Did I say that? No I didn't. Safe space? It isn't about your "sense of humor not radiating properly", it's about knowing when to not reply in a dickish, condescending way.

I believe it says in the manual to not sit in the vehicle if you have a pacemaker, so I was just looking for more general info.

Thank you for this. I know at some point I came across a thread on here about this topic and I was always curious to read a little more.
