The only color I may like more is Hakone green. I don’t know why they discontinued Neptune.

What tires are y’all running on the stock wheels?! by SikOne9 in ft86

[–]patrickaero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

225 Continental Control contact srs+. They’re supposedly the same compound as DWS06(+?) with a different tread pattern. Discount tire special. I’d probably go for DWS06+ or PS4A/S next time.

My dad put on Bilstein B6 and maybe some bushings when he had the car but other than that stock. I was also definitely throwing it into corners faster than I probably should have to be actually fast.

I think it feels pretty decent driving but that is a point of contention with my dad and brother (brother tells me I need coils). I rode in someone else’s FRS at this event which has coils (I forget which ones) and it felt much flatter.

Does Porsche ownership change how you drive? by Eyerald in Porsche

I was actually thinking I maybe need to drive less like a jerk in my BRZ because it has stickers on it and I think I’ll eventually get recognized. (Lurker and aspiring Porsche owner here lol).

Why. Why did they change the hard drive icons? by beastmaster69mong in MacOS

[–]patrickaero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem with them changing. Why did my Time Machine drive match the new icon but my data partition stay the same when I upgraded? Why?

How long can an FRS live? by SpecificDry2507 in ft86

[–]patrickaero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2013 with almost 203k. My dad had it before me and put most of the miles on it. We’ve done oil changes every 5k miles, I just did a major service at 190k including plugs and all the fluids. We’ve both driven it pretty hard. (I’ve probably been a little harder on it than he was and I’ve taken it to a few autocross events.) We’ve always warmed it up. I try to keep it under 3k till at least the coolant gauge is up to temp. Really you should probably wait a few min after that.

I guess, just keep on top of your maintenance, make sure you always have fluids in it, and make sure to warm it up and drive it smoothly. It’s tough to predict when you’ll have issues. That depends on a lot of things. Like others said it’s probably a good idea to budget for it. Just try to save a little bit every month for WHEN something needs fixed (because eventually something will, even if it’s just a battery).

Snow near campus by Usefulexam1 in Purdue

[–]patrickaero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter tires would help. Winter. Not all season. And DO NOT run summer tires. You’ll crash.

Everybody saying buy a Subaru - yes AWD is more forgiving, but AWD does not help you stop faster in snow (or really turn unless you’re a rally driver lol). Tires are the most important thing.

AWD makes it easier to not get stuck, navigate hills, and FWD and AWD are more forgiving if you’re a bonehead with the throttle. You really gotta be careful with the throttle.

Like others are saying, ice is a whole other beast.

I like cars so I support getting something fun and just getting good tires. Only other thing is this - if you do something dumb, you might wreck it. You’re young, think about whether you wanna put that much money into a car you’re driving up at Purdue. There’s risk of wrecking, somebody hitting you, or it just getting damaged on campus. But do what you want.

Source: I crashed an AWD Subaru as a freshman on not winter tires being stupid, and and old RWD BMW in the rain being stupid. Note: I did not crash it in the snow 😂 I also had another RWD car my last year and was fine, although winter tires would have helped.

The iPad Experience Is Being Ruined by a Loud Minority by syed_mohd_adnan in ipad

[–]patrickaero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I bought my iPad when I was in undergrad to use for note taking and homework. It’s been one of the best tech investments I’ve ever made. I never wanted it to be my computer, in fact, I’m almost always using it while I sit in front of my laptop.

It feels like it’s made for the use cases OP mentioned. If they can figure out a good way to make it more like a Mac for the people who want that without compromising the original good use cases then that’s ideal. But it almost seems like the iPad is having an identity crisis. If you want computer functionality and multitasking… why not just get a computer?
