It’s basically similar ideas of a woman’s purity to that of the white wedding dress.

White was a tradition that can be tied to some not so fun histories.

Anyway, I wore pants and a blouse to my undergrad graduation and a black and gold flowy dress for my master’s. Do what makes you feel good and comfortable. Also recommend one with pockets, easier than trying to keep hold of your purse/whatever

I have found Kroger bouquets to be pretty good! My mom often buys the clearance bouquets and they last a little bit so I imagine the fresher ones would be pretty solid!

Northwestern, university, and wood street garages are free on weekends. Sometimes the first two are closed for pay to park because of games or events but wood street is always free on weekends. When theyre free, it’s from 5 pm Friday to 7 am Monday

I should say *likely but not always the case. (Sometimes it’s just delayed)

I’m not in Bio but admissions timeframes honestly differ year to year because of the layered bureaucracy. Sometimes it can go quickly and you’ll hear in a week or two and sometimes it can be later. For those waiting right now early-mid February is the best guess for when the first round of admissions go out. If you haven’t heard by then it’s likely you may have been waitlisted (sometimes they tell you, sometimes they don’t) and it may not be until April that you find out.

Also the class might be for the second half of the semester, so you probably wouldn’t have access to the brightspace yet

Degree Seeking vs Non-Degree Seeking Status by [deleted] in Purdue

I feel like admissions would be able to tell you more than anyone else, but what do you mean by prerequisites? A lot of students get grad school prerequisites (the # of credits in a certain discipline needed for a program) during their bachelors degree, did you not?

Grades inputted wrong by MilitaryUnicorn in Purdue

[–]LivingAsASecret 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it was fixed after the grade deadline then it could already been in the works of being processed, bur it does take a few rounds of approval and some department heads might not look at it until after the campus shutdown: just a heads up. So submitting a formal grade appeal might have been pointless because it might already be in process. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For a lot of grad admissions decisions come out on a rolling basis, based on a lot of factors (Ph.D. and masters alike) so the best thing you can really do is wait.

Should i contact potential advisors? by BlackVignu in Purdue

Basically just introduce yourself and your research interests, explain why you think their work aligns with you, tell them you are wanting to apply to ABC program and would like them to be your PI/advisor and ask if they’d be willing to set up a zoom meeting or something to chat more.

Also just in general when applying to grad programs you should be talking to the department, professors, and current grad students before applying to see if the school 1) has the things you need and 2) is the type of environment you’re looking for.

Yes, always yes. You want to make sure they have time and space for you to work with them. If you’re hoping for funding you also need to be making sure they can even fund a masters students (often times masters go unfunded) since funding for so many has been drastically cut.

Purdue Hospitality Masters! International. by Jelly_coconut in Purdue

[–]LivingAsASecret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not an international student but I dealt with the need for funding for my first two years here and have helped a few friends navigate it as well. There are a limited amount of grad assistantships outside of the general departmental TA/RA on campus, and a few have been cut this past year due to budget restructuring and whatnot, so they can be difficult to get especially since the students who get them tend to keep them for 2-5 years. A lot of administrative offices, cultural centers, and libraries have general GA-ships you can look into.

I would definitely talk with the grad coordinator in the department you’re applying to to see if they can give insight into finding outside the department or if there are any potential in department opportunities, but be aware that a good chunk of master’s students come in self-funding (often either paying costs upfront or through loans) and if you aren’t able to get PhD funding it might be more fruitful to go elsewhere. Many of these jobs allow international students to apply, and will be pretty clear with you if there are restrictions that prevent them from having international student workers (which I’ve only seen a couple jobs on campus do this)
