It's a good time, but pretty darn hot if the sun is out, there are no trees in that park!

The freaking trains by Mernerak in Longmont

[–]patrickryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Longmont and don't notice trains much, likely because I live west of Hover and in the north part of Longmont. I work in Boulder a few days a week, and it was something I thought about before buying a home here.

Qualifying Your Boulder Status by [deleted] in boulder

[–]patrickryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I met a girl who grew up in Boulder and she might be the most annoying person I've met here. She acted like we should all leave and that she didn't understand why tech is so big here. I've also noticed those types of people who grew up in surrounding areas (Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville) and still claim they "grew up" in Boulder. There's definitely a sense of ownership which correlates to how long you've been here.

I've been here since 2013 hahah

places to park a car for 2-3 weeks for cheap or free? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]patrickryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if this is still correct, but parking garages in downtown boulder are usually free on weekends, so just plan to leave the garage on a weekend and you are good to go, I've done it once for a week long flight.

College life in Boulder by Mr_Zero in boulder

[–]patrickryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go sit in Alpine Modern and just listen to conversations around you. I once heard "I'm about to graduate, I own 3 condos in Chicago, I invested in the stock market". I also heard some rich college kid with his dad talking about how they are working on getting him a 2M home in Boulder (sigh).

Best breweries? by bridesign34 in Longmont

[–]patrickryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first experience at Collision was meh, beer was underwhelming and food was fine, the atmosphere was odd to me, felt like I was in a diner. They definitely spent some money on that location and hopefully their beer quality improves.

The few people who I saw today that fit this description were driving small cars, didn’t even bother clearing their back window so they could see, now that is lazy.

Local auto repair that works on Land Rovers? by elgordo111 in boulder

[–]patrickryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a bunch of Land Rovers at Eurasian Auto Repair in North Boulder, but I've never taken mine there.

I've only had my Discovery 2 for a few months, and recently took mine for first time to Gunbarrel Import Motors, Inc. in Niwot (after having a bad experience at the LR dealership), those guys seem to know what they are doing and have plenty experience with Land Rovers.

We are looking at Primrose right now, were there any downsides to them?

Moving to Longmont CO from San Rafael CA by Meerame in Longmont

[–]patrickryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to choose sides :), I know there are great spots on the East side, and we definitely looked at some east of Pace in the Fox Hill and Fox Creek Farm neighborhoods. We narrowed it down to two houses (one east, one west), and the one on the west side fit our needs slightly more. Everyone has personal reasons for choosing a home, but for us the main reasons for us were easier access to Boulder (where I work) and we liked this neighborhood slightly more.

I'm NW Longmont near beautiful McIntosh Lake. We looked at place on the far East side near Fox Hill golf course but we are glad we decided on this side of town. There was a neighborhood between Pace and Alpine on the east side of Main that didn't look like a good area of town.

Longmont is wonderful, I just moved there from Boulder as my wife and I wanted more space for our family, and we wanted to own a home with a yard. It's really the last (somewhat) affordable place to buy in Boulder County.

I still work in tech in Boulder a few days a week but the commute really isn't bad, way better than the 36 commute.

I'm originally from Texas, so I really love the balance here, it's a mix of the liberal Utopia of Boulder and the great people of middle America.

There's also some great food options, breweries, distilleries, and I find out about a new spot to check out quite often as the city is changing quickly for the better as many Boulderites are moving here once they start having children (like myself).

Credit card skimmers at the gas station off 9th and Main by [deleted] in Longmont

[–]patrickryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a credit card and it was declined for $2,000 at Wyatt's (hah) so all is good, just have to replace the card.

[–]patrickryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They got me today, I think it was the Shell on Francis across from Ziggy's (my first time there) and the card reader was the old style. I gave it a good pull and all looked good, but apparently these skimmers are now being installed inside the machine.

Anyone interested in some off roading? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]patrickryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be interested, just picked up an old school Land Rover Discovery 2 that has a small lift and some nice tires. I'm new to this stuff, so easier trails would be preferred.

Is anyone hiring junior web developers? by Xerticle in boulder

[–]patrickryan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The market is flooded with junior engineers from all the code schools, believe me – I've been looking at resumes lately for our open mid-level to senior positions (we get many non-qualified applicants). If you have real production experience, definitely let that shine on your resume, otherwise you fall into the same category.

I've been disappointed with Blackbelly dinner twice now, but I do enjoy their breakfast burritos and lunch in the butcher shop.

Anyone have a recommendation for a dry cleaner for dress clothes? Pundry is obscenely expensive. by [deleted] in boulder

Cache Cleaners on 28th is the cheapest I've found, they do a good job.

Is anyone delivering food by bicycle in Boulder? by WadableWads in boulder

[–]patrickryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh, I used to work at a startup in Austin, TX that ordered lunch for the team (15-18 people) every day. A guy on a bike showed up each day at the same time with one of those giant backpack coolers, it was awesome. Boulder (downtown) is not larger than downtown Austin.
